Day 128: EVER'thing comes to a sudden stop when--

Saturday, May 07, 2011

--there's a thunderstorm. We don't get them very often, thank goodness, but I do not enjoy them at all. I'm as twitchy as a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs.

I grew up in a small, very sheltered valley, where thunder and lightning happened way up above us, not around us. When I left home I lived in a relatively 'flat' landscape, and the storms seemed to get up close and personal, right in - my - face. Plus because they were closer to hand, the noise seemed much louder.

I really had to struggle so my kids didn't pick up on 'storm = Mom freaking out' when they were little kids. I think it worked (Kate: either of you scared of thunderstorms?) but man-o-day, it really was monumental effort. Once they were much older, I could cave in to the phobia, lol.

Anyhow, today's big storm (it went on for the better part of an hour) kind of disrupted things, because I wouldn't putz with the computer or put my hands in dishwater or watch television. I could've read a book, but that would've taken more focus and concentration than I had available at the time. Eh. You know what Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say: 'It's always something.' And so it is.

Other than The Big Storm there was the usual stuff, just bits and pieces. And it's back to Formula 1, so I sat with Himself in the living room during the qualifiers, checking in occasionally to see who was where. Tomorrow will be a long afternoon, as race coverage starts at noon and lasts till about 4 or 4:30. I will have a book and my phone (which I'm still learning and playing with) to keep me in full multi-tasking mode, lol.

That's it. Time for our weekly medical drama, then some Beatleband and bedtime. An easy, but satisfying, day - the bestest kind.

Goodnight, Sparklers, wherever you are!

Glad to hear you recovered from the thunderstorm! My last storm was so loud and scary that one of my dogs jumped on the bed next to me (in the middle of the night) and wouldn't stop panting & prancing until it was over. I even try to keep my cool around the dogs, so I can imagine how hard you tried for the kids! I just imagine, "What if a tree falls & hits the roof, etc., etc., etc." But almost always the outcome is just peace & quiet.

Hope your husband's favorite wins the race!

    Race? Which race?

I say this as I await the start of the Kentucky Derby... but you're on the other side of the pond!
