Went to the doc and she said my HDL was too low, but my total lipids were within healthy region. Went back for a fasting lipids blood draw and while the HDL went up 2 points, it still ain't enough. So now I get to stock up on fish oil and flax seed oil and tuna and nuts and dark purple /blue fruits. If the triglycerides were lower, I could see having a glass of red wine with dinner, but that will have to wait. Red wine isn't a favorite, so it would definitely be for medicinal use! She also suggetsed lowering my carb intake, which is going to be hard. Half of my diet is carbs!
And I have to work on getting my heart rate up more times per week. Going from 76 to 90 beats per minute on the doggie walks isn't cutting it! So more weight training and more energetic exercise. Maybe I'll break down and buy a heart rate monitor. But I intensely dislike the chest wrap ones cuz the one we have that came with the recumbent bike is so-o-o cold! Any suggestions for ones that have worked for you?
