Happy 88th Dad!
Sunday, May 15, 2011
Today my family and I will celebrate my Dad's 88th birthday. He's still up and moving around and is truly an inspiration. Both of my parents are.
Dad goes to aerobics Tues and Thurs and hates it when his hip hurts him so much that he can't go. He doesn't look at it as an excuse, even though the doctor tells him to give it a break for awhile. All he wants to know is "Hey doc, when can I get back to my exercises!"
My Mom needs a walker, and is not as mobile. She needs a hip replacement, but because they had to tie off one of her corotid arteries, she is too high a stroke risk for any kind of surgery. She is in more pain that she will let us know 24 hours a day, but what does she do? She goes to "her man" twice a week. She is speaking about her physical therapist Dustin. She packs herself up no matter how sore she is and just tells him what kind of a day she's having, and he works her out accordingly. She's usually in a lot of pain when she gets home, but she knows that she needs to keep things moving or at some point the hip won't let her do anything.
So, on days when I just don't feel like working out or even motivating myself to do anything, it's hard to feel sorry for myself when these are the roll models I have. There is a zumba class during one of my Mom's therapy sessions, and if I dont' make that class, I feel like an idiot! I couldn't come up with any kind of excuse to get me out of that class if she has gotten herself to PT.
so Happy Birthday Dad, and thanks for the continued inspiration!
I love you.
