This is a process not a race!

Monday, May 23, 2011

Everyone,

Please remember, this is a process and not a race! You don't have to be perfect at your diet and exercise program. You just have to keep making progress. By progress I mean that next month you will have more good food choices days than this month, you will have more exercise minutes completed than this month. You just need to keep working at making this month better than last month, and next month better than this month until you reach your goal. It's a process.

Stop stressing about blowing this or that. Just start doing your best. That's all that's expected. Take time to learn about the process, tweak it, make it yours. OWN IT!

Break the big goals into little bitty bite sized chunks. Instead of running a marathon, start with a mile, then go to a 5k, work your way up slowly. Myself, I find that a minute a day is a very doable chunk of time to add in every weekday until I reached a 90 minute exercise day.

For eating habits: I conquered all my weekday breakfast's first. Then I got organized with my lunches. Then my snacks (no more trips to vendo-land, nor any desire for it either cuz I pack my healthy snacks now.) Now I am working on my dinners, and soon I'll be working on my weekend meals also. Its a process. Divide and conquer! Take what you can control easiest and get it under control. Then start working on the rest, a bit at a time. You want to work up to the hard stuff. And really, once you got all the easy stuff under control, the hard stuff doesn't look so hard.

I still have a long way to go weight wise. But, I've already conquered more than half the battle. I have regular exercise as part of my life - I get in more than 1000 minutes a month. I eat more than half my meals according to plan. I'm steadily working away on the rest.

It's been a two year process to get this far. What I can tell you is that it does get easier. It does becomes a habit. You can do this! You may not be losing and getting in shape in Biggest Loser record times - but you will be doing it! Just keep plugging away.

Practice makes Perfect! And I'm practicing for a healthy life and heart! Come along and join me and practice becoming a more healthful you in your own way!
