in december ... DH decided (for numerous reasons) retirement from USMC wasn't in the picture (not now anyway). the result is a reassignment to tx. oh my goodness the emotional roller coaster for me was ... well, there just aren't words.

we returned to the united states, moved to socal, purchased a home and were to put down "roots"... the last 23 years have been fabulous, blessed ... but all military careers come to an end sooner than later ...

after much discussion, prayer ... finding out the assignment is for 11 months instead of 2 yrs ... we made the difficult decision ... DH departs solo next month. while we're not looking forward to living apart. we believe it's the best decision for our family right now.

as a military wife, i've experience numerous deployments. but this time will be different, DD is in college ... in one way that makes it easier ... no solo parenting ... in another way, it's harder ... the challenges and demands of children keep you going/busy until your spouse returns.

bottom line, i feel fortunate that DH is not going to Afghanistan and will be just a few states and a plane ride away. i'm envisioning lots of romantic date nights" !! and praying that the time away from my best friend will pass quickly.

last week i had a professional photo shoot... a little something for DH's office in tx. here's one of the pics ...

Great picture...actually Gorgeous is more like it!! You guys will be fine, the distance these days is so much easier. No long distance bills, waiting until after 7 to call...heck with cell phones, facebook & skype, you could spend more time communicating than I do with my dh in the same house!

11 months...will seem like no time at all:)

All I can say is.....Wow! Your situation is hard for me to imagine after spending so many years together. I can't imagine how you must be feeling, April, but I know what a strong woman you are and you keep so busy with your family and job. You will be okay, but if you ever want to email, you know that I'd love to chat. I'm hoping you'll call me more often and we can talk from time to time. The time you surprised me was so nice, but I felt we didn't get to talk long enough!! Perhaps next time we'll both have more time.
You look beautiful and classy (as always)! I know that your special DH will miss you, too, so much. It must be so difficult leaving you. Since we were in the service when we were so very young, I do remember the feelings of separation. It was excruciating, but we made it through.....and so will you.
I love you, my sweet friend, and hope that you'll keep smiling that gorgeous smile and call when you want. XO Hug that daddy of yours for me....and your mommy!
Congrats to your DD. She's doing so well and I know you're so proud. Brings back the memories when Bri got a fellowship to do his Masters. Fabulous!

Oh my goodness! You are gorgeous!!!

I think your attitude is wonderful. It is true... TX is way better than a deployment to Afganistan. And it's less than a year, so while I'm sure you will be counting every second, it could be worse. Finally, a separation can make your relationship stronger - when you get together, you will not have time for arguments or petty, day to day discussions... you will want to make the most of your time together and I think that will make your relationship even more "romantical". Finally - your time at home by yourself is YOU time... you can focus 100% on yourself and your interests and not feel guilty about it!

    Hang in there!
