Day 173: Man Works from Sun to Sun...

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

...women's work is never done. But then, we know they wouldn't be able to cope, don't we, lol...

I scrubbed the kitchen and laundry room floors today. Usually I do the 'quickie-mop' thing, with a lick and a promise. I guess the promise fell due - overdue, more like.

I can't find a mop here I like. I used to have an O-Cedar sponge mop that was great, simple but effective, easy to use, that worked well-enough in between the spring / fall deep-cleaning sessions. Here, I have a sort-of swiffer thing, spray 'n' wipe, whatever it's called. So it does the lick & promise, but it doesn't really clean.

I can't stand rag mops, string mops, whatever those things are. I always feel as tho they are pushing the dirt around. Might not be true, but personal preference y'know. It's what you grow up with, I suppose.

What I'm getting to is, today was an old-fashioned hands-and-knees session. Gah, I'm getting too old for this malarkey, lol. I'll hurt tomorrow, no doubt, but I'll sleep sound tonight.

That's my news for the day. Goodnight, Sparklers, wherever you are!

I'm lucky - my DH usually does the floors. Your picture reminded me of living in my parents' house, though, scrubbing wood floors with a brush. Ugh. I prefer ironing to that!

Too bad my Father-In-Law is not still with us. He LOVED doing the floor on his knees with a brush, pail, and sponge.
Never got upset when the kids were little and made messes. He just got out his "Kit" and had them help clean it. He made it fun for them, too.

Oh, my gosh, you're reminding me that I've been promising myself that scrubbing a floor or two has to get onto my "one thing" list one of these days. Sigh. But doesn't it give such a rush of satisfaction to look back on your handiwork?

My sons use to think this was fun to do---unfortunately, they grew up---LOL---and no way my knees will allow it---but understand the problem with mops---and string ones always lose a few strings each time you use them.
