Birds and Turtles

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

I have been so busy I let the feeders run dry but I filled most of them yesterday and today a few birds have been coming back to the feeder to have some seeds. They really thin out in the summer anyway when they have access to lots of bugs but I offer them some goodies if the raccoons will leave the feeders alone.

I am still doing my turtle rescues. I had to get a huge male turtle out of our driveway the other day and I rescued 2 on the county highway yesterday - one a box turtle and the other a water turtle.

It stormed again yesterday and cooled off today and was nice.

We finally got our local ABC station WSIL3 back after it was out for over a week.

Today I defrosted the big dorm fridge.

Hubby spent another evening copying papers all night for the trust.

Shows how out of it I am, I didn't even know that WSIL was out, but our cable carries ABC out of STL.

emoticon we relocate the snappers that come around but there is no picking them up unless they have a big bite on a stick instead of a hand, lol. We see painted turtles sometimes. Snappers aren't good for our pond or the bass in it. Hence the relocating.

You are so good to those turtles. I know a box turtle from the others but not sure about the difference between a water turtle and a land turtle. I have a fear of picking up a snapper.

    You are my SHERO!

My Dad was a game warden and he used to stop to get turtles out of the road and to the other side. I happened to remember since posting here, that once he picked up a turtle and had us to roll down the window while we were sitting in the back seat. He stuck the turtle through the window for us to have a closer look and it peed. He never did that again, lol!

Glad the birds have returned and the turtles are safe and sound. Sounds like a lot of paper to copy. Hope it will be over soon for you all. emoticon

Not sure I'd pick up a snapper, they are big and bad. But thankful you love the wildlife!

My hubby is jealous of the turtles. We never see box turtles here in Ontario.

I have a vision of you walking along with a snapper in your hands. You are holding him at waist height. You are both facing ahead with smiles of contentment on your faces. You are the best for sure. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon M. The Turtle hugger, feeder of the wild life. emoticon

Is it safe to pick up a snapping turtle? I guess so, 'cause they can't move that fast ... or CAN they? emoticon emoticon

There was a big snapping turtle by our church building when we were there to clean the building and mow the grass.

One of the fellows carried it across a busy road. It had to go down a very steep hill to get to a creek. I imagined it turning end over end trying to navigate down to the water, but none of us were going to go down to the creek trying to keep our balance while holding it.
