do you compare yourself to others

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Today the thought about comparing people was brought up....
Men who follow movie stars and models seem to be less happy with average women, usually there wives or girl friends...I thought it was sort of sad when I heard one of the celebrity spoke people for Jenny Craig say "as long as she sticks with the prepared meal she keeps the weight off" wow so for the rest of her life she wants to eat pre packaged foods, I sure don't.
I'm guilty of comparing myself with others, I look at everyones thighs and say mine are so much bigger, why do I have such huge thighs......then is morning I ran out to get some fresh berries and a really beautiful young women was asking for donations for CP, my first thought was wow what a strikingly beautiful young women, I told her I would stop after I got my berries as I had no change..... she thanks me and said okay I'm holding you to that, we both laughed and smiled....as I was rushing to pay for what I had purchased I saw that same beautiful young girl walking through the door, i was shocked to see how handi capped, she was, she in fact has CP , it was a huge bolt of guilt that hit me, I was thinking to myself as I was getting my berries, how come I was not so beautiful, what a charmed life she must live with that beautiful face and her slim body.....I teared up, and even now cry as I see how destructive comparing myself with other because of there beauty or there slim thighs....
I need to be grateful for what I have been blessed with, big thighs and all...
I said a prayer for this young women and thought how brave and beautiful she was on the outside as well the inside....
I need to do some work on my insides and my thoughts about my body....
I have been so lucky to be healthy, even when I was 347 pounds I did not have high blood pressure, diabetes or any other medical problem except maybe being tired a lot....gee I wonder why, carrying 200+ extra pounds around..
so today I am thanking God for my beautiful healthy body flaws and all....
thanks for listening to me....and now I wonder do you compare your self to others not knowing there story ....do you see young beautiful women and ask why not you...or wonder how splendid there life must be just from there looks....

BTW I did go back and give a donation...wish I had more money cuz she would have gotten it today....

I certainly can understand your feelings! I can get caught up in the "if only" thoughts when it comes to my body, but I am so thankful that I lost all of the unhealthy weight I was carrying around. So I still see that I'm not "perfect", but I also acknowledge that I will never look like an air-brushed, nipped and tucked celebrity...and considering their personal lives -- I'm especially thankful for that! emoticon We are wondrously and fearfully made as a glorious tapestry -- God sees us as His beautiful children - HURRAY!

What a grat blog! What an eye opener! How quick we are to have automatic thoughts about ourselves and others, when most likely the thoughts are not correct. Like you, my heart goes out to the beautiful lady with CP. How sad she has to deal with desease, how wonderful she is beautiful, both inside and out!
Just like you Kitt, beautiful . . . . inside and out!
    Hugs,

I just see people as people.
If they are doing bad stuff, I think not nice people but unless they impact me I put them behind me.

Then I see and interact with nice people and I try to take some time to have them in front of me.
    I just like people.
HUGS KITT, you are a wonderful person HUGS Pat inMaine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I do not compare my self to others.
    I knock myself a lot .
I know you dislike your thighs but I think you
look lovely. We all have things we do not like about
ourselves but like you said we have to be thankful we are
    healthy.

    Love Mary
