Question For My Spark Friends

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

I am working on life qualities that will enrich me personally and help me to show a great sense of learning more from others.

Can you share with me how you show that you value others input?

I will be journalizing the thoughts from SparkPeople, let me hear your thoughts, please.

I have one idea , Offer praise and positive reinforcement.

I know I'm a few days late but I try to follow the admonition at James 1:19 to be "swift about hearing, slow about speaking" so that I can get the full import of what they are saying and respond appropriately. I also try to follow Cinamin's suggestion and to look them in the eye and even offer a smile to let them know I hear what they are saying. I'm also a big hugger (which is weird because I'm extremely shy) and handshaker where appropriate (bros/sis only) but I know not everyone is comfortable with that.

I love the idea of leaving personal notes and may try to apply that suggestion myself. emoticon emoticon

Sorry that I am a little "tardy to input" but here is my 2 cents.

When I am listening to someone speak, I always look them in their eyes and make sure I am only paying attention to them. That way they feel important and that they have my full attention. I try to always listen more than speak and always to ask how someone is after they have asked me.

I love the idea of snail mail too! These Sparkers are smart cookies without the fat!

I love personal notes, whether they are through snail mail or here on SP. I've been negligent in sending them to my SP friends lately but I think personal notes - even something as simple as saying "I'm thinking of you" -- makes me feel good so maybe they will help others too.

I listen...and then say "I hear what you are saying" because sometimes, one just wants to be heard and acknowledged as such.

I haven't done so recently, but I have written personal notes and sent them via snail mail to folks on the congregation. You can always find something positive to say. People really like getting these notes. When I was regular pioneering, I would also stop in if we were near a br or sisters house and I would leave a short note in their door if they weren't home. emoticon
