phase ONE: all about paint

we moved into our home five years ago this month ... i've transformed it room-by-room with the exception of the formal living room/dinning room combo. the space is totally uninspiring, it's oddly shaped and truly has some challenges ... until now.

i have been blessed to meet a new friend, an aspiring interior designer. she wants to build her portfolio ... i want to make our house a home. we're the perfect team. she listens so well. she doesn't trying to make me fit into a box or her design style of choice. she's helping me "take some chances" ... in short, THE WALLS WON'T BE WHITE! :-) previously, since i didn't know what to do, i played it safe. we rarely use the living room ... why would we, it's boring!! nothing about it represents us, our lifestyle, etc.

well ... SP buddies, a change is in the mist ... and i couldn't be happier. i won't be completed over night ... i have decided to basically empty both rooms and start fresh (GARAGE SALE!!)

p.s. her analysis of things i like determined that my design style is "global" :-) ... i would have said eclectic contemporary. i like global better.

what's your design style?

Exciting! What a great idea to have an aspiring interior decorator help! You are able to add to her portfolio & she is helping you out.

Awesome, April!!! Looks like you are going with a nice blue color. I love it when people take chances... my parents always had the walls in their house painted some variation of off-white... BORING! It's only paint! If you don't like it, you can paint over it.

I love "global"!! Great classification. Our pad is currently "bachelor contemporary" mostly because when the BF and I moved in together, I sold my apartment furnished ("tropical colonial"), so we have his furniture and just went with it.

We are about to buy a new house (!!!!!) and are thinking of going with 50's kitchy. We'll see how that shakes out.

How are things going with your hubby being long-distance??

And PS - LOVE the new profile pic!! You are simply GORGEOUS!!!
