Comfort Foods!

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Feeling down today and would love some creamy homemade pasta--maybe mac and cheese followed by a big bowl of ice cream covered in caramel and chocolate. And of course whip cream!

Why is that I crave bad foods when I am down? Especially when what is bringing me down the most is my weight? So frustrating.

I settled for a bowl of grapes.

Look for a recipe that is a healthy version of the foods you crave. I've always found that when I make foods forbidden / completely off limits because I'm trying to loose weight, that's exactly what I binge on when I can't take it anymore or when I have that "you can't tell me what to do" attitude (yes, towards myself)...which leads to guilt and shame...which leads to more binging. It's vicious cycle that hasn't ever worked for me.

Check out recipes.sparkpeople.com for healthier versions of the foods you love and ideas for foods you never would have considered. Read the comments under each recipe for even more ideas. For instance, here's a link to a mac & cheese recipe that sounds really yummy (copy & paste it - I can't make it "live"): http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/reci
And have a bowl of ice cream or frozen yogurt with fat free caramel sauce, chocolate sauce and light whip cream...just measure it out first so that you're only having one serving. You deserve to have foods that you love, especially when you're taking better care of yourself, AND you deserve to watch your portions and track your food intake so that you still meet your weight loss goals. You can have the best of both worlds if you just give yourself permission.

I totally get it. Me well feeling a little cranky today and so far I've wanted an astiago cheese bagel, shrimp lomein, and a slurpee. Instead a peach a 1/2 sandwich and a lot of water. I wonder myself if it will get any easier? You can get thru today.
