What do you do for fun? Go out to eat? Maybe have a few drinks with friends? Watch your favorite tv shows? Or maybe you like watching sports and let's not forget video games. My point is much of what we do for fun doesn't really involve a lot of physical activity. Some of what we do can even be considered unhealthy.
One of the challenges for those of use who are on this fitness journey involves redefining what we do for fun. We shouldn't just exercise to lose weight. We should actually enjoy it. When I was younger I'd play basket ball all afternoon in the summer. It was never to hot for me to go hoop! In the fall it was all about football we were always outside either playing in the street or at the park, we were having fun! Many adults look at kids today and say they spend too much time on video games and at the computer. We ask why don't kids go play. A better question is why don't we.
We need to go outside and play! My knees won't let me play basketball in the park anymore. However, I can enjoy going for a walk in in the park it is relaxing you can clear your thoughts or even work some things out in your mind while you walk. You can get to know some of the regulars at the park and and talk while you walk. Who knows you might create a little walking group.
I like to walk but I really like music and dancing. I sweat when I dance and I when clubbing I'd be conserving my energy trying not to sweat. But the whole point of exercise is to sweat! This is why I like Zumba I get to basically dance while I'm working out to fun music and sweat up a storm. Plus sometime you even start to meet some of the people in the class and kind of make new friends. The weight room is the same way if you go long enough you start find workout partners and before you know it you have another peer group.
My point is, we need to stop dreading working out and start enjoying it. We need to do it for fun! My wife and I were talking to a lady at the Y. She is married to a DJ a knows all kinds of hustles. The hustle is kind of like the electric slide. The thing is she is obese and says she wants to lose weight I suggested to her that she dance at home for a 1/2 hour straight. Dance, work up a sweat and keep dancing just have fun! Who knows maybe she could even teach it as a fitness class herself? At any rate I hope you are enjoying your workouts and viewing them as fun!
