Still Gardening and Yardworking - lol

Thursday, August 11, 2011

It was another beautiful day and I took advantage of it. After I got my indoor and outdoor chores done I leaf hogged around the house and it really looks nice. Then hubby and I finished hauling off the weeds out of the veggie garden and covered it and the 5 raised veggie beds to burn out the weeds. So that will be done for the year. We are not going to try to plant any Fall crops and if we change our minds we can just uncover one or two of the raised beds. We still need to mow/mulch in the raspberry patch, grape arbor, and blueberry cage; plant my rose of Sharon and my iris; and move a few plants.

If you can die from too many chiggers then I'm dead meat. LOL.

We have had a lot of fun and success with our garden (vegetables growing in big pots) until the past two weeks- it has become very hot and buggy (mosquitos and nats) and the peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and squash are just tired and listless- I hope rain and cooler weather is around the corner! Stay away from the chiggers!

Glad to see that things are working out for you and the family! That is awesome! Also glad that you are able to be out in the open and somewhat back to your routine working in your gardens, yard, and with your furbabies! Yay for you! As for the chiggers, well, I've had a few a number of years ago and boy do they itch! Haven't had any since. My hubby loves fresh raspberries and blueberries and both are great on cereal or just plain to eat! And flowers and iris are beautiful. It reminds me of my life as a child when dad grew everything! He included having honey bees to help pollinate the garden and so we also had honey as well. Those were the days my friend but alas they have ended for me but I will settle for a walk in the yard or though Baker Park. You have a wonderful week! You are loved! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Do you cover your raised beds with black plastic or what?
I'm going to be building new raised beds this fall and filling them with new soil.
Unfortunately when you get a truck full of soil, you don't know where it came from or what seeds are in it. I don't want to face boxes full of weeds in the spring.

All the Florida bugs are yellin' "Yee-hah! Fresh Yankee meat!" when they see us coming.

I always say that a garden without bugs cannot be healthy... so the chiggers must think you are prime meat!

I remember chiggers from my Grandma's who lived in the wild in the Ozarks in Missouri.

Glad you seem to be doing better?, read your blogs from July 30 on to catch up last night, and this one tonight sounds like you are your usual hard-working self.

We don't have chiggers here. We went to Iowa when I was a child and the chiggers loved me so much, my mom took me to the doctor. We didn't know what they were. I had a lot of allergies and she thought that was what happened.
