Chinchilla Weirdos

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

It is starting to heat up again but isn't too bad yet. In the 80s but not real humid.

I'm still sleeping pretty well and getting my exercise in. Eating too much.

Chinchillas are little weirdos. When you clean their cages they check to make sure you put everything back in just like it was. If you don't they look at you like you took a dump in their house. LOL.

I had to wash Reek's and Porkie's bed sacks today. Reek has a little tent and Porkie a little square cloth house. They did not like me taking their houses to I had to get them washed and returned as quickly as possible.

Squeaker was in one of her crazy moods this morning. She wants to come out and sit on my shoulder. When I try to clean the cage she gets mad and bites the wires and drags her food bowl with her foot. It's funny because if you put it back where she doesn't want it she gets really hot and then drags it back out of the way. It ends up being a tug of war.

Reek likes to play tug of war with a squash ring. He has a bad temper and so does Porkie.

Blocker is pretty eccentric now that Stinker is gone. She demands to get out and then bites me every time to show me who is boss. She wants to eat discarded food out of the trash bowl I have. Very pushy. She reminds me of the face huggers in Aliens.

Bun is eating good and feeling okay right now.

Baxter is back to humping me every day.

Runtster is more friendly right now and even lets me rub his neck which he doesn't usually like.

Porkie is very lovey dovey and wants to sleep with me. He coos at me and grooms me.

Cats are little weirdos, too. As I type this, our youngster Shadow (aka Moose) is dragging the placemat out from under the food dishes. Honestly, I think she is trying to 'scratch and bury' the older cat's stinky food. Moose also likes to race around on the hardwood floors, even if it means that she wipes out in the corners.

Our elder cat talks all the time, whether or not there's anyone to listen to her. She likes to be cradled like a baby and she'll tell you - with a different meow - whether she needs food or water.

Love 'em or lump 'em, we have no shortage of 'cat-itude' at our place!

I never thought about chinchillas having personalities. I thought that having them was more like having fish, pretty and calming, but not something to really interact with. Thank you for teaching me.

It's so nice that your furbabies love you so! They are just like little kids trying your patience and yet expecting to be well care for which I know they are. It's amazing how when one cares for pets/animals, that the Lord gives us insight as to the natural instincts of these furbabies and how they tick. I never get tired of my grand-Dog Maggie and watching her as she sniffs, points, and howls; after all she is a walkerhound and that's what hounds do best! I am glad that things have turned the corner for you. Thanks for sharing and have a great day! You are loved! emoticon emoticon

Let's see - you got glared at, played tug of war, got bitten, and humped. Sounds like a normal day for you.

Sorry to learn Stinker has passed.

    LOL! I love it!
As weird as they are, I could just envision you smiling as you wrote this. Our pets can really keep us grounded and happy when all else in our lives seems completely out of control.
Thanks for sharing them with us!

They each have their own personality, just like any other animal. I miss being around lots of animals. It's a lot of work, but so worth it.
