The Heat Is On

Thursday, August 18, 2011

It is heating up again and the humidity is rising. It was sunny today and back into the upper 80s.

I had another great night's sleep last night. It's nice to get back to normal.

In a nod to one of my fellow sparkfriends - I finally balanced my check book today. I was 2 months behind.

I saw 2 turtles mating in the compost pile today. I wanted to check out who there were but they were not wanting to be disturbed. Go figure!! Some "people" are so antisocial. LOL.

I have a couple of tree frogs living in the front fountain. They will eat the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes haven't been bad this year though.

Just checking in to let you know it's NOT 50 degrees in Texas yet, lol. However, there is a rumor that in about 10 days we are going to have a day that is only going to be 100. WhooHOO! Karen

The heat and humidity have returned here, too, with chance of pop-up thunderstorms over the weekend. We definitely need the rain! I mowed the back yard this evening and must have inhaled a hundred bugs! Yuck!

We live on the river and have ponds up the road. We've had West Nile Virus the last 5 years. They county sprays the ponds when the mosquito count goes up to a certain level, when we're getting lots of bites.

We have lots of wildlife here. There are frogs that sound like bellows, weird guys. A skunk that eats the bugs under the bug zapper, not often as it has to come out into the light. Rattlesnakes, ick! Lots of different birds, turtles are the painted turtles. They go by on logs a lot.

Someone on Freecycle was giving away a 20 year old turtle with papers. I didn't know they ever had papers to give. I had two turtles but really didn't have a good envirorment for them. The girl was laying eggs on the sidewalk so I gave them to a girl at work who had many turtles and a place to keep them. We had raised them from birth.

It was hot here again yesterday as well. I hope today is cooler because our dog tends to have nosebleeds if the weather is hot.

We are still hovering right at 100 degrees everyday, and now it no longer cools down below 90 at night. I am cranky and miserable to live with! LOL
I'm only one month behind on balancing the checkbook, now.... it is on my weekend to-do list.
I'm glad that things are returning to normal for you. You definitely sound less stressed.

Our mosquitos haven't been bad, but even one is bad enough.

I've been sleeping a lot lately... maybe I'm storing it up for something big?

We're still in the 100s; 48 days straight (50s the record) + humidity. Counts your blessings?! I love when sleep happens. :) emoticon

Saved a teeny frog from the pool filter today. Found a large black snake in the tree. Frog was hiding? ;0)

Mosquitos haven't been as bad here, either - not as much rain I think.

I haven't balanced my checkbook in, oh, *whistles* *mumbles* yrs? Every year I want to get a program and set it up w/my bank, but never do it. It's something on my List though.

I'm so glad your stress (or your handling of it!) has been so much improved lately. I feel the same. Lots of stress but I'm strangely calm and handling it well.

Yay for frogs! Keep the skeeter population down. Now if there was such an animal to eat the deer ticks that would be awesome! I wouldn't want to mess with mating turtles especially in a stinky compost pile! What a mess they would be! LOL! We are suppose to be getting showers off & on for the rest of this week. So we shall see. The air quality index is not so great. So hopefully the rain will clear things up.
