One Small Step for Me

Thursday, August 18, 2011

I made a commitment that I was going to get healthy and set a good example for my kids. So, this week, instead of the crazy running and eating out 3 times a week (really, quite sad), I went home and made dinner. Even when I was tempted to get a quick meal after picking the kids up at after school care and taking them to Kumon. Yes, it was late, but yes, I went home, made a very healthy dinner and we sat down at the table to eat. We did this 4 nights in a row.

What I learned:
- the kids LOVED it. In fact, they are rather happy to play and wait for me to cook dinner. They liked the home cooked meal and the care it represents.
- i felt relaxed. i was convinced it would be harder, but in fact it was rather relaxing cooking dinner for the family.
- We talked more. It was awesome. We chatted while I was cooking and at the table. It was so satisfying.
- i ate less! Holy Moly! No way, but it's true! I ate fewer calories and felt more satisfied than I ever have after eating out.

Am I going to continue? You bet. This is making me a better mom than ever. At this rate, who cares if I lose weight? Ok, me, but really, this is awesome.

I'm so glad to hear that your small change is making a huge difference for you. I know that when I eat at home I am more in control and eat better than if I would dine out. I also find myself weighing and measuring my food more when I dine at home.
