Day 233, Part 1: Dawn Breaketh
Sunday, August 21, 2011
Just a short update - thank you one and all for the support and suggestions. I got out the earplugs and they did the trick. The thumping bass and loud vibrations (and what sounded to be terribly offkey singing - maybe they had karaoke going) weren't blocked entirely, but they were certainly muffled to the point of 'on a distant shore.' Which was sufficient to the task.
The hotel (I say 'hotel' because that's part of its name, but if they have 30 rooms at least some of them must be broom closets) changed hands several months ago, and I think that has a lot to do with this problem. There's only been one other wedding reception this summer that went on so long. Now, that's assuming it was a reception last night. If this is some kind of new Saturday-night gathering (featuring karaoke, for example) then yes, the first step is to check out local ordinances (I know someone who's conversant in those, lol) followed up by a swift letter to the parish council.
Himself put his good ear into the pillow, and with his hearing loss and tinnitus, wasn't bothered - he dropped right off. I can't believe other neighbors weren't disturbed tho. It was a relatively mild night, which means people had windows open, and there are a lot of houses closer than ours to the hotel. I imagine you could pretty much hear the shindig all over the village.
Well. What's done is done, new day 'n' all that. Carpe diem - make it a good 'un!
