Most of you probably already know this

Monday, August 29, 2011

I am a very slow leaner or at the very least to stubborn at making the life changes necessary to lose weight and live healthier. I know I most likely will not become an exercise junkie or give up my sweet tooth. I don't know how to deal with the first yet but I think I might have figured out the second. Whenever I begin to crave something sweet (cake, cookie, pie you get the picture) I have a piece of fruit first. If the craving is still there I let myself have something sweet. Well, I have tried this for the last week or so and the strangest thing happened, the craving disappeared. When I tell myself I can't have sweets it just doesn't work, but swapping it for fruit or something healthy seems to work for me. As far as exercise goes I have been more active around the house lately. I have been cleaning out closets, straightening up rooms that I keep behind closed doors and starting some hobbies like sewing that I have been putting off. I hope I can manage my weight situation with my new found wisdom.

Cleaning is definitely an exercise in itself. You can think of some activity that you enjoy, it can start out as social activity such taking a stroll with a friend, DH or child around the neighbourhood and soon your body may crave it.

I noticed the same thing . . . when I eat a piece of fruit before ea meal, craving for sweets vanishes . . . I think our bodies are craving fruit not sweets.

Hi Mary Lou, what a nice baby step! Another thing to try is to have the piece of fruit, drink somew ater, wait 20 minutes and then have the sweet if you want it. I have to plan an occasional sweet treat in my program or I would run away from it. That for me is a lifestyle change: not eating a lot of sweets or other cravings and then saying, "Oh well, I blew it again, may as well..."
    Anyway, emoticon for you!

Mark Twain said, it is not what he doesn't know it is what he knows and doesn't do.

I think we are all a lot like that. Great idea or reminder. Either way.

Excellent Eureka moment description. Next time you buy grapes, freeze some in a baggie. When you find you'r out of fresh fruit, grab some frozen grapes. I think they actually taste sweeter when they're frozen.

Now the exercise thing. Go take a walk. Really. If you can bring a digital camera and share pictures with us, please do. If not, I want a full description of one thing you find on your walk that you wouldn't have even noticed if you hadn't walked. Even if your walk was only around your home, it is a walk, and it counts.

    Ready? Set? GO!

I wish it was that easy for me. I have heard that fruit works and have tried it but for me just the site of something sweet makes me cave. I heard that hypnosis works.
