Coping with a possible job loss

Friday, September 02, 2011

Got a phone call Wednesday that the property I manage (apartments) is changing management. The company I have worked for five years has no other positions open.... I may be out of a job October 1st.

On one hand I am devastated. I spent three years taking the property from a dump and making it the best I can. I had 16 empty units when I started (out of 104) and now there are two (and those will be quick to rent).

On the other hand could this be an opportunity to change careers? I have been pretty burned out lately with this job/career but the problem is THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE! I am not qualified for anything. I graduated from college 15 years ago, had my children and have been in property management for 10 years!

Riding this roller coaster is not fun. I will have to really focus so I don't let myself get lost. That girl on the left side of my profile picture is NEVER coming back. She is gone. Even if I have to quit jazzercise (for the $) I will just start running outside, biking, etc.

So sparkies, pray for me that I either get to keep my job with the new management or find a position before mine ends. And all this stress before a long "holiday" weekend....

Hang in there, my friend. This may just be the gift of an opportunity you never saw coming. My hubby has been out of work for 18 months now. We were devastated when it first happened because we were in pretty rough shape financially already. It has really turned out to be a blessing, as he was able to go back to school and get trained in a different field, which he just finished, and is now looking for new work. And God has taken care of us financially all along the way. If you trust the Lord, he won't let you down - just keep looking to Him for direction, and step by step, He will guide you through this no matter what happens.

Praying for His perfect will to be done in your life and that He will provide the courage, strength, and peace to face any challenge that comes your way.

It always amazes me how we look at ourselves and feel we are not "qualified". I look at your blog Felice and see many qualifications..... you are a loyal employee working for the same company for 5 years, you have been in the same line of business for 10. You obviously worked hard and had great ideas that worked to improve the occupancy rate in your apt. complex! That takes skill..... planning, coordinating, implementing! As a mother you posess many more skills and talents....... um how about MULTI-TASKING???

I worked for 36 years and managed people. It's not your degree that impresses employers. It's your self confidence in you, your ability to work, willingness to learn and ability to get results! You appear to have all of that.... so go after your dreams!

    Oh..... and NEVER QUIT !

    Hugs Felice!
When God closes a door a window opens. So we will hope that all works out in your best interest.
You have a LOT going for you, you would be surprised at all you can do. Apply everywhere and for everything remotely interesting.

I will pray that this will be an opportunity for something better. My husband and I went through this last year and it was extremely difficult and stressful, but we put our trust in God and now things are even better than before, as they will be with you! emoticon
