Another Productive Day

Thursday, September 29, 2011

It warmed up a lot today - into the 80s!!! It even aroused the turtles! Two turtles finally came out to eat today. At the same time!! They were a male and female. I don't know if they had been shacking up together or what but they actually ate with each other. Male and females never do that. They ate at opposite ends of a piece of cantaloupe. They looked really cute. He finally got his fill and left her to finish.

We still have a hummer too - a female.

I got all the castle blocks moved. These suckers are heavy. I can only handle 5 in a wheelbarrow unlike hubby who loads it up. My body is screaming. I am too old for this!!!

There are no persimmons this year!! And very few nuts too. It will be hard on the wildlife because we can only afford to feed them so much.

    Hi there,

our deer family have been reappearing for short periods. It seems like the doe is teaching her babies how to cross the road and not be seen. I worry about wildlife during the winter season--heck, I worry about me as well. I am sure the turtles made you happy--I was so happy when the deer came out again. We have seen them 3 very brief times.

    Best wishes, my friend!!

Glad you got a bit more warm weather. We had a cold front come through tonight, just in time for the outdoor concert tomorrow night! It will be hard for me to look good meeting this guy for the first time if I have to be all bundled up! I think our high tomorrow is supposed to be about 68, which normally would be fine, but I was hoping for a little higher just for the evening.

We haven't had a killing frost yet, but it was down to 36 degrees on Wednesday morning. It got up to 78 today for a brief moment or two. It didn't last very long. I hate to see fall come. There is still a lot of produce in the garden. I had my freggies today. 12 cups. That definately topped me off.

    Sleep tight.

That does sound like hard work, but I'm sure it will be really nice once it's done. Glad you spotted some turtles today... that must have made your day!

I so need to get my garden into pre-winter state... it won't take long, I just hate to accept that the growing season is nearly over.

    Enjoy your Friday!

M I am building fences and you are hauling bricks, what are we about?

Getting outdoors and getting it done.
Housework is never that much fun.
    FOR ME!

Cooking good meals and accomplishments are great.

Some day I will not be able, so I will do it while I can enjoy it. I look at what I did and feel proud.
I saw those bricks at WalMart and thought about buying some $1.98 a piece, leftovers. Good idea for ringing my English oak. Thanks Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm still waiting for that cool front to move through!! Continues in the 70s but humidity is supposed to drop significantly today and then cool down tomorrow. My husband's mother used to always make persimmon pudding--his family loved it but I wasn't so fond of it. Why do you suppose there are no persimmons and nuts are few??? Too much rain??

I remember using a wheelbarrow to help my mom in her garden. I was a teenager, but I remember even the empty wheelbarrow gave me enough of a work out. I think it might be the handles too far apart that makes you work muscles that you usually don't use. Just think of it as an opportunity to do some upper body work. Every trip you make, makes that much stronger.

What type of turtles live in that area, Snapping turtles? It would be so adorable to see the little hatchlings swimming around. They are water turtles, right?

funny what Meltedglass thought, its my bf birthday and he used that expression to mean something else all together.

Glad the strength training is over ---wait a minute, knowing you that is a temporary situation - and you had welcome guests. We had about 20 minutes of blow and 5 minutes of rain but I will take it!

hah... the first line I read was "We have a hummer..." and I was a little sad that someone still owned a hummer (the large, gas - guzzling vehicle). This made me happier to read the blog from the beginning! Where do you live that you're just getting warm weather now? Up here in Ontario, Canada, we're seeing the first frosts of fall.
