I'm Sticking With What Works For Me.......

Thursday, November 03, 2011

You would think that by the time you have reached my age (old) you would have emotional eating under control!!! Wrong!!!!! I have tried many things to control it and have found that there is really only one thing that works for me..........Keep Busy!!!!!
A couple of months ago I began a painting and cleaning project which included every cupboard interior in our kitchen. As long as I was involved in emptying the cupboards, washing everything in them that was washable, painting the interior walls, re-lining the shelves, and washing the woodwork, plus putting everything back in the cupboard.........I DID NOT THINK ABOUT EATING!!!!! And I was in the kitchen!!!!!! Exposed to food!!!!! If I am busy, food doesn't even enter my mind.........therefore, it doesn't enter my mouth either.
We had company for a month and I put the kitchen cupboards on hold. I also began to eat more than I should have. The past 3 days, I have returned to the project and have lost a pound. I only have so many cupboards and have done all of our closets..........I still have OTHER projects that I can begin which will last for at least a year. When that ends.........I may have to hire out..........what a plan.........I could make a few dollars AND lose weight!!!!

I totally agree with you about keeping busy as a distraction from eating out of boredom! Now, if I could just channel some of that toward cleaning... emoticon

Great way to deal with boredom eating is to keep distracted. Works for me too!

I notice that too. Generally I tackle big projects when I give myself a deadline to be finished with it. One thing I do that sabotages my efforts, is when I finish a project, I don't start another right away or keep to my chores "daily."

Good work on your cabinets! I have a workshop that needs vacuumed with the vacuum tools and reorganized. I have one vacuum and hate to carry it up and down the steps to the basement. The workshop has a bare concrete floor and I need to learn what to use to clean it. I don't think it has ever been cleaned, only swept. There's a project to work on when there is snow on the ground.

I agree staying busy is one way to not think of foods, I can drop pounds fast that way too. Keep up the good work. I already did my cupboards but I plan to label everything in the garage that are in totes. I have six shelves of totes!!! A lot of up and down on a ladder good for the legs.
    Happy projects to you. Sandy
