Ugh.... I'm just going to say it. My Mother-in-Law sent us two boxes of Christmas treats. Fudge, divinity, peanut brittle and some other things. I know she means well (I think) but she also knows me and my husband have changed our eating habits. I broke weak and had some of the fudge (ok......a lot of fudge). Kinda acted like a deprived, starving person..... I love chocolate and can't just have a bit. I know better, but couldn't stop myself. I've got to get rid of it but feel bad about throwing it out. My husband doesn't have a sweet tooth and will easily be able to avoid it. That leaves just me and my daughter and I don't know that she will have any either.

I'm disappointed with myself for having so much, and I need to figure out what to do with it. I don't want to think that she is sabatoging me, but why couldn't she make an effort to be considerate? Maybe I am just being mean. I don't know.

    I haven't received my goodie package yet, but I'm sure it's on its way, lol! I know that she means well. Due to a limited budget, I think that she feels it is the best way to show her love (through our tastebuds) without some of the expense. She makes a mad rush of goodies for her clients at the salon as well. Last year, I had to dump some of it too....it was just so much.
    Don't be hard on yourself for your chocolate indulgence. Put in a couple of extra runs this week, and you're good to go!!! Love you SIL!! :) emoticon

    Don't feel bad about a little slip up, it's what you do now that counts - toss out the goodies, it's ok. emoticon

    I agree...take it to work to share. Fudge is not something I can pass up either.
    I dont know your MIL or her intentions but I know for me I come from a family (me included) that shows "love" by baking. Its a hard habit to break. =/

    Give it away to someone at work or something. I don't believe that she means to be vindictive. I think that she means well. People who haven't changed their diets and lifestyles have no idea what it is all about. Don't feel guilty about what you've eaten. It won't kill you. In fact, I bet it was good. But now you know that it is enough. Just give it away. Merry Christmas. LOL

    Maybe you could give them away?
    At work, at your daughter's school or to charity...
    It feels better than just throwing away.
    But throwing away is still better than eating it and feeling bad about it.

    Watch out for that old bugaboo,
    perfectionism. Overindulgences do not
    have to set us back,while being angry with
    ourselves may. How quick we often are to
    attack ourselves for these small slip ups.

    The best solution to overeating is the step
    back and look at your overall pattern and
    calorie averages. How are you doing
    over time? That is a much better measure
    of your success than an occasional eating

    Being loving to ourselves, means that
    we recognize that not every aspect
    of our unconscious is on board with our
    new habits. Older patterns still exist
    waiting to be expressed and occasionally
    when our guard is down, they will come
    roaring back. How we respond to this
    behavior is far more important than
    the behavior itself.

    Love yourself in all your glorious
    aspects. Each one is there for good

    I have decided over the past couple of years that throwing out candy, even homemade super delicious, is okay! it's better than in your body. You've had some and now it's time for it to go. you couuld find someone(outside of your house) to share with ,also. But, it's just PURE SUGAR. NO NUTRIENTS!!! do not feel bad about tossing it!

    I understand your dilema but I could be that mil. I am sending goodies, too, BUT, hoping that my kids share at work or church. Maybe you could give some to a neighbor. It's the time of year for the decadent foods of our memories. but we need to pass some on so we don't eat it all ourselves. Be glad you got the awesome candy. You surely will NOT add a lot of weight.     Try to not be too hard on yourself Elaine. I am the same way with sweets. The only thing that works for me is to throw it out. It seems wasteful but better than eating it and feeling terrible.
