Day 31

Sunday, January 01, 2012

So the Christmas season and the year have come to an end. Are you hopeful or wistful, looking back with regrets? I'm one of those people who LOVE the new year. I love January, love the new start, the fresh opportunities, the new pages for my day planner! the possibilities, the fun times I know we will have.

I looked back to the beginning of my challenge to myself, beginning on December 1st, to make this Christmas season one that would not be driven by impulsive eating and beating myself up because of bad food choices. Every day I tried to be mindful of choices I was making and then writing in my blog ONLY the good things, focusing on progress and not on the slip ups or occasional high calorie days.

I was so surprised at the difference it made. The minute I would start a negative monologue, I would squash it and just focus on what I had done well. After a few days, I was eagerly looking forward to what good choices I could make to report on. It was encouraging and fun! I ended up making great choices and feeling so happy. I found out I don't have to deny myself at the holidays and that just a few bites of those awesome treats are enough! I don't have to give up the enjoyable holiday foods or whine and complain to family and friends that I really shouldn't eat the good food they have prepared.

I lost ONE POUND!! That doesn't sound like much, in fact, it could be water weight loss, but I have historically GAINED 5-7 pounds between Halloween and New Years, and that was while trying to stick with a diet!! Unbelievable.

All I can say is this was the greatest Christmas present ever. I don't have to be on a diet! I have years of diet experience (LOL) and I know what to eat. I learned all of that from Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and Spark People. I just need to use the knowledge. Wow! this seems so simple. Why was it so hard? Maybe the dedication of recording and paying attention to daily actions was the trick?

I'm looking forward to 2012. I am going to start working out with the BLC 18 team and get ride of these last 10 pounds, all while not being on a diet! I'm looking forward to strengthening my body and improving my health.

I wish you God's blessings of health and great food this year. If I can encourage you in any way, please drop me a line and I'll be happy to reply.

Happy New Year!!
