That is what I saw when I looked at my fitness minutes for the year! It was shocking, yesterday I had so many, now I have none! Who took them?

As I got ready to run and remedy that zero, it occurred to me that nobody had taken them, I had traded them in! I wanted to be healthier, I wanted to have less pain in my shoulder and knees, I wanted my biometrics to be better, I wanted to weigh less. I worked hard to raise the count of the minutes over the year, and I cashed 'em in! I have found all those things this year and all it cost me was some minutes I had been saving up!

I don't do New Year's resolutions. Instead, I like to look at the year past and think about things I could have done better, things that could have been left undone, and then start changing course. 2011 was an awesome year! As one who used to eat a lot of fatty food, smoked, and didn't exercise, I let myself get in pretty bad shape. Now, as a runner, I am more careful about what goes into my body (last night should not be used as proof of that)! It sounds so funny to call myself a runner. I didn't say that much before, but after I blew away my 100K in December goal, I found that I just want to go faster, farther, and more often. Yesterday I had to force myself not to run, I heard my body say it needed a day off.

So this year I will do what I did last year, I think I have the right formula! I am setting my exercise goal for less time, but higher quality exercise. I am not going to go through the paces, but demand more and push myself more. I will also make time for the recovery runs, cross training, and days off to prevent injury.

I hope everyone has a great 2012, save up those minutes and cash them in on what you want to accomplish. Credit doesn't work here!

Happy New Year!

I felt the same way - it was a shock to go from seeing over 1500 minutes to seeing zero! I also am focusing less on racking up minutes this month, and more on form and quality. You certainly are a runner, and good for you for taking a well earned rest. Happy, healthy 2012!
