I am so very lucky

Friday, January 13, 2012

Today as I walked on the treadmill, I was thinking how lucky I am....
As most know I once weighed 347 pounds and maybe more at some point....any way I read where so many who have lost weight have regained there health and can stop medications....

That got me to to thinking that even with my weight I never have had a problem with blood pressure , cholesterol, or blood sugars....God gave me a strong and healthy body and it is my duty to keep it that way....That is going to be my new motivator, keeping this aging body healthy....

My Dad age 87 still lives on his own, he has not medical issues either, he had a slight stoke way back but it did not effect him much, he still takes no medication except a low dose aspirin, when he feels like taking it, did I mention he is stubborn like a mule, maybe that's what it takes to live long, let me also add he has all his own teeth, and only wears glasses to read small print.....
I am hoping I have his genes...
okay my Mother too was healthy women, she never had high blood pressure or cholesterol issues or diabetes, but she was a smoker and lung cancer too her at age 76, she bowled the week before she died.....darn those cigarettes, she might still be with us and enjoying here great grandchildren...she has 8 of them now and who know how many more on the way.....

oh well just feeling blessed today, plus healthy and strong....it is up to me now how well I treat this body....

have a healthy week end

Yes, we should all treat our bodies like a temple, and remember how it could be SO much worse.

I don't want to be old haggard and unhealthy, only feeling weak and out of it. Thanks for reminding me that I am fortunate to have my health, and that I owe it to who I want to be to stay on track for it. I do have diabetes but it's under control, always ready to flare up if I don't employ good habits. You know you are a rare bird who got that heavy without yet seeing the effects of poor habit, but you know it and also know that few of us are immune. I never tire of hearing your stories about your journey.

You are lucky to be so healthy Kitt and like you, I say 'darn those cigarettes!' I gave them up in '90 after smoking for years and it was one of the best things I ever did . . . giving them up!

Long life genes run in my family too, in the women . . . my sisters are ages 95, 88 and 82 and I'm 76. Lost one sister last year and she was 92!

I feel thankful every day just for being here!

Have a great day, whatever you plan to do!

I too hope I inherited my parents' good health genes. My dad is going to be 85 in February and has no health issues either. He walks about 2 miles a day and is an avid gardener. I came home from work a couple of weeks ago (we live next door to them) and he was cleaning out the ditches on our road.

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last January @80, had non-chemo treatment and surgery in August. She finished up her radiation in November (turned 81). She contined to amaze us all last year. Because of her good health, faith and all around good attitude it was "no big deal" (her words)!

So I too feel blessed and try to keep my body healthy and strong in the hopes that if I live to be 80+, I'll be as active and healthy as my parents (they're going to Vegas with my sister in Feb.!)

You are lucky, Kitt, and it's wonderful and healthy that you recognize your blessings. I believe we all have a certain number of days in our "book" and it's up to us to make the most of them. Some people are here a very long time, some a very short time, some never make it through birth and some are here for various times in between. We don't know how much time we have in this life, but it's up to us to make the most of it. Some folks do a better job of it than others. You are doing an excellent job and I applaud you!
