Blood donation day
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Our local Red Cross had a scheduled local blood drive earlier today at a local church. Since I donated blood there before, I received a reminder phone call to let me know the date. I went after work and did not have to wait in line. From the time the collection bag was attached to my arm until it was filled was under 7 minutes.
Afterwards, I knew from past experience to take it easy for the remainder of the evening (meaning I knew not to exercise and to get plenty of fluids). For some reason, I seem to get a little light-headed after I donate blood. I know I get enough fluids during the day. However, maybe I'm not eating enough beforehand. I kind of believe this because once I eat something and relax a little bit, I feel better.
Even though my body goes through these changes, I don't want to stop donating. I know I'm helping others that need something that I can give them. Because of that, I feel proud to donate and there may come a time when I need the same kind of help.
