A fun challenge...Biggest Loser style

Saturday, January 21, 2012

I find myself leading a BL Challenge at work. DawnieJackie and I have been trying to lose weight for quite a while and we decided to team our efforts. Then thought it would be fun to have a BLC at work.

Our first meeting/weigh-in was yesterday. There are 16 of us. I printed a couple of articles from SP and made copies for everyone. We included SP website on a list of resources for the group. And dare I say this? I totally forgot to mention Weight Watchers! WW has traditionally been my go-to for health/fitness...but not anymore I guess! lol

Anyway, each participant is chipping in $10 which will be the final prize. And each week, everyone will chip in a quarter for a weekly prize. If anyone gains weight that week, they have chip in an extra quarter! How's that for incentive? And btw...did you know there is no longer the "cent" symbol on the keyboard? I was trying to type 25 cents, and couldn't find the "cents" symbol. When did that happen? And boy oh boy! I guess I'm showing my age! lol

So, I'm the weight keeper of the group. I've pledged not to reveal anybody's weight...and I WON'T! I volunteered to do this mainly because I didn't want anyone to know my weight. Then I realized that it wasn't fair for me to witness weigh-ins, and no one witnessed mine. So I volunteered DawnieJackie to witness mine.

That proved to be very liberating for me! No one...and I mean NO ONE knows my weight...not even my husband! Only me, my doctor, my SP weight tracker....and now DawnieJackie! That has prob sealed our pact, I think. Of course, I have waaaay more to lose than she...to the tune of 60lbs more...but at my height, I'll always weigh more than her! I gotta tell you, it felt good to share that with someone!

Lastly...our group decided (my idea) that the BL of the week could assign 3 challenges for the group to perform for the week. The challenges should be from one of 3 categories: fitness challenge, nutrition challenge and motivational challenge. I assigned the group to bring in a picture of a slimmer self. We'll share these pics at our next meeting...but ideally, they will pin it in their cubie space for inspiration. I can't wait to see everyone's pic! It should make for some good feely moments...laughs...and comradery. I hope I can find the picture I have in mind for myself. I was 23 at the time. It's a full length pic on the beach in a swimsuit! I was super super skinny...and thought I had big hips at the time. Oh what I would give to go back to that time!

Well, I hope you enjoyed this blog...I will post our progress from time to time. I am super excited about it! Now I need to get off my bum and start working it!

Have a great Sparkely day!

I was just listening to a podcast about on line challenges like this. Dave Jackson (podcaster) created an Excel spreadsheet that people can download and use to have a Biggest Loser Competition at work. Check it out!
