POMANDERS

Saturday, January 28, 2012

I remember when I was quite young in the early 50's the Girl Scouts made these pomanders. They were oranges studded with whole cloves.

I made one for my parents for Christmas. Many years later while clearing out Moms' home when she went to the nursing home, I discovered this in a box that Dad had made for it in a closet. Even after all that time, some 45+ years it still eas intact with a fragnance. Then about 15-20 yrs. ago I made one for my husband. Ditto to this day.

However, I recently made one for our kitchen table with the idea of making some more for there. However, the orange is souring already. Am I forgetting how I did it, or what?

Does anyone recall this old-fashioned craft? I'd sure like to make more, also for gifts.

Be safe and have a terrific week-end!

Janet

Hmm...I wonder if it may be due to the type of orange or even maybe sue type of pesticide they use these days. Not sure..but hope to hear what you find out.
