Another Wild Sunday In The Boonies

Sunday, February 12, 2012

Hubby and I were feeling very adventurous and kinky today. Kinky for people in my area is not kinky like people in Las Vegas or New Orleans. No offense to the people who live there, I know everyone there is not kinky but your cities are on practically every list of the most kinky cities in the U.S. so someone there must be kinky.............. whatever kinky is. Don't tell me. I really don't want to know. LOL. To clarify, kinky for my hubby and me usually means leaving the house on Sunday to do something besides work. LOL.

We decided to go to the Herb and Garden Show at the local mall where my son works. When I use the term mall I don't want to confuse you with a vision of a mall like you would see in a city. This isn't Mall of America. It's closer to a strip mall type thing than a typical mall. We have a Sears, Penney's, Peebles, a Hibbetts, Shoe Sensation, Bath and Body Works, Maurices. a music store, a couple of clothing stores, Subway, Asian restaurant, coffee kiosk, and maybe a couple of other cheesy stores. Plus a bunch of empty stores. One level. There is no Neiman Marcus, Tiffani's, Saks, Bloomingdales, Louis Vuitton, skating rink, food court, fountain.

We had never been to this show so we talked to our son about going as he was running the store he works at today. He was going to call us once he was at work to let us know about the show. Why? We have been to a mall before. We can handle ourselves. We don't need an escort. LOL.

Actually when anything goes on in our tiny town everyone shows up. If they were giving away discounted proctos everyone in the county would bend over and line up. LOL. The parking lot and mall was packed. I had never been to one of these shows before and always wondered what it was like. It was different. Sort of like a cross between a flea market, rummage sale, with a tiny bit of plant stuff thrown in. There was a guy there playing the banjo and his wife was playing a keyboard. It was the best thing to me. Not to shock anyone but I have a banjo, though I have not played it in years. LOL. We stopped in and said hi to our son. We didn't see anyone there we knew but saw our DISH provider and her mother entering when we were leaving.

Hubby would have purchased something for me but I only found a handful of things I really liked, mostly dishes, and I didn't need them. As I have stated before, I am entering into one of my minimalist phases. No, I am not returning to my days, like when my hubby met me, where I had minimal furniture, a 12 inch black and while TV, and no stereo, but I am reducing, reusing, recycling. I am not bringing anything into the house unless something is leaving it. And I'm helping stuff to leave.

We then went to Wal-Mart to get some spray paint and sugar free Valentine candy (hubby's idea) and to Lowes to look for some biological bug spray before we stopped at Burger King as we were starving. By the time we got home the day was over. We spent the rest of the day with Alpha Reekie. He demands attention. Hubby caught up on some paper work tonight.

I wanted to add that I certainly loved what everyone had to say about my no excuse blog. Trust me, I'm not being mean, I just hate to see people digging their own graves. I can't help it. I'm a nurse. I can't stand by and watch people commit suicide by food.

What a great weekend and blog. Glad you and DH got to go to the Herb and Garden Show!! I felt right at home with you as all the oddities are right here where we live. One reason I love walking here...I just never know what I will see while I am out and about. No major malls in our area either...just a strip mall with a Big Lots, AT&T wireless, a Chinese restaurant, Sears optical, Holiday Hair beauty salon and and Aldi's with the PA Assistance office at the end. Not much in the way of excitement but you can see some really great things and get lots of laughs pretty much any day of the week. Of course within a quarter of a mile, there are five hotels, four gas stations, a Dairy Queen, Wendy's, KFC, a chiropractor, dentist, eye doctor, pediatrician and other specialty doctors, two banks and the PA state police.

That sounds like a fun and very interesting day!
It's funny how in all the small towns, when something is going on, they all do come out to see whatever it is.

Just doing something out of the usual is a very fun time. It is so easy when you are working all week to fall into the habit of just sticking around the house on the weekends. It seems like so much needs doing!

I am feeling that minimal thing too right now. It always happens after Christmas but now as I am getting older I just don't want all this stuff around that I have to dust and take care of. Been there done that! My sister constantly kids me about wanting to live in a "staged home" with only one thing per table. Sounds pretty good to me. emoticon

Port Charlotte has nothing BUT those malls. No town center, no park with bandstand, no quaint little shoppe area. The town across the harbor bridge, Punta Gorda, is a little more promising, so that's where we went last month to a home and garden show. We'd never been to one and were kind of hoping to see some, um, plants. There was exactly one booth with plants; the rest were home supply contractors trying to push their wares. We came away with information on solar panels for our pool. No garden stuff whatsoever.

LMAO over your discounted proctos! Now that would go over REALLY big around here in "Wrinkle City" as another SparkFriend calls this neck of the woods. Make it 2-for-1, or "all you can take," and people would go nuts. emoticon

Sounds like a fun day!! Why am I not surprised that you have a banjo!? Awesome!! They had a mall just like yours in the small Indiana where I grew up. So we move to this area with malls and stores everywhere. But every summer when we went home to visit, my daughter and I would shop Maurices. Loved that store!!! (It went out of business there)

You mentioned being a nurse and not wanting to watch people destroy themselves.

Several years ago, my doctor at that time had a large sign posted in all of his exam rooms that said if you smoked, he would give you the tools to quit with (guess the patch or whatever) and if you had not quit within 60 days, he would no longer treat you because it was like fighting a dead horse. He was one of the brave few that would post something like that - I thought it was great!! (He meant it too).

Sounds like you & hubby had quite an adventure today... Kind of nice to do something different sometimes, isn't it? Glad you enjoyed yourself.
