Soggy Hump Day

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

We didn't get a lot of snow on Monday night but there was more accumulation than the only other snow we have had this winter. It didn't start until my hubby got off work Monday and there wasn't a lot when my son got off later. There was less than an inch by morning but the ground was covered. It was already melting when we got up on Valentine's Day and it all melted off.

My son was off work Valentine's Day and he and I had to clean the 6 pet cages, the bathroom, and vacuum. I had some work to do for hubby on the estate. We no sooner got done then it was time to fix supper. I made some things I had in the freezer as I didn't want to buy anything. I am using up a lot of things I have on hand. We had spring rolls, shrimp, rice, and Texas Toast. My son and hubby liked it. We had purchased some candy too - most of it sugar free. I ate it and the combo of it and the gluten tore my guts up. I cannot handle this stuff.

It was drizzling here today but it was above freezing so that's good. Tis what umbrellas are made for. LOL. I had an umbrella when I went outside. Poor Baby did not. The pretty girl was sitting in the rain by the side of her house looking for me. She got on her feet right away and watched me go to the road and put the food in our special place then watched me come back. I told her to go get her breakfast and she did. She is very polite and well-behaved and I wonder if she would even take the food if she didn't know it was meant for her. She certainly is not greedy or selfish. Whenever the neighbors had other dogs she would let them have the food. The neighbors other dogs were all males and she has outlasted all 4 of them - a chow, a blue healer, a beagle, and a mixed breed. She is a chow too but stays pretty close to home unlike all of them. She is smart and cautious. She doesn't bark unnecessarily. She's old and I tend to think she could be lonely but maybe I am just projecting my feelings onto her. They other dogs were always more flamboyant than her and I assume they hogged most of the attention. She reminds me of many women I know here - very low maintenance and loyal. Strong and self-sufficient. People ask why I do this. Sometimes Baby wags her tail at me. Not a crazy wag like a young playful dog but a friendly wag that says, "I like you. We are friends."

My son got to work days for a change and go to taekwondo after work. Hubby worked on paper work all evening for the estate. The list of things to do is getting smaller all the time.

Our snow is almost all gone a TOTAL contrast to last winter!! Still it makes it treacherous at work. The parking lot is a skating rink. I would still rather have snow than freezing rain.

No snow here and it was 44 degrees--Heat wave. DH and I went to a movie that was fabulous. Based on a true story from the late 80's. Whales trapped under the ice and how people from all over the world watched their story.
BIG MIRACLE. I assumed it to be religious but once i read about it I knew I had to see it. From start to finish it was great. Way too bad there were only 3 older couples in the place. We did all clap and agree it was a wonderful movie. HUGS Pat in Maine.
Baby sounds like a really nice dog, too bad she is lonely.
Sgar free anything will tear my guts up and give me a rotten taste and headache till it is GONE. Now I am so much smarter, I always look for the crap on the labels and leave it behind. My body is Chemical and supposedly environmentally challenged, I am still 68 years young and loving it though.

Sorry you were in gluten pain. emoticon My guts don't seem to particularly like ANYTHING anymore, so I almost quite literally feel your pain.

Baby sure is fortunate to have you! And I'm sure she loves you to pieces. emoticon (Just pretend that's a chow.) emoticon

so finally I find out what baby is chow. our dog is chow husky mix and we think a bit of collie or sheltie. She is a mild mannered chow not agressive at all. very quiet and sweet. Getting a tad old she is going to be 11 in July and is slowing down. HUGs to your baby, which I presume is a neigbhour dog or stray ?

Glad you didn't get much snow. The past 2 days have seemed spring like, +6 C or so and sunny. Nice but won't last yet, this is the mildest snowless winter yet so far.

Well off to paint the ceiling and part of walls in bathroom, then the floor.
Off to the store to look for flooring after that. I would rather go visit Thomas and Eva.
    Have a super day!

I can relate to the "crazy wag" reference. Some dogs' tails go in a circle when they're excited.

How interesting to relate Baby's personality to the stoic women of southern Illinois! Love it!

What ever happened to Chumley? Did he wander off and disappear like the others?

It's nice that you feed Baby and are a friend to her. Our neighbours at the cottage always gave my daughter's big black cat treats and he was so happy to go see them.

Liking the lack of snow!! Even though, I am so ready for spring. Poor Baby!! I have fallen in love with her!! I am so glad you watch out for her--do her owners? Absolutely love your last line. Shortening the list of things to do is such a good thing for you!!!!!! I need to get moving and get at least a few things off of my to do list. Feeling a bit better this week and a little more motivated.

"The list of things to do is getting smaller all the time."

Did ya ever think you'd say that?!

We're sending a bit more snow your way but - like your weather - it's too warm for it to stay. I'm grateful for the moisture, though, else the farmers are going to be in a world of hurt this spring!

Glad you had a nice Valentine's Day. Hope your winter stays mild. We all need a mild winter in our lifetimes. Alaska is such a beautiful state, but I can't imagine -60 and wind.
