Self Control

Sunday, March 04, 2012

Good morning at church today. First I was tempted by maple bars in Sunday School, but I resisted. It helped that I updated my status here at SP when I was being tempted. Then I got hit with a sermon on Self Control (fruit of the spirit series). The way he presented it really made me think and feel a bit guilty about my food "sin". A thought that made me smile though is that He has already given us these "fruits" and we are victorious in Him. I just haven't handed this one over completely. He used the example of the wall of Jericho and how they celebrated prior to the actual victory. That's a picture of how we should believe our battles end. Celebrate now as He's got our back and then watch the victory unfold!

Time to go get my party in order!

Congrats on resisting temptation! That one would have been hard on me.

I love it when a sermon has such perfect timing in my life...as if the minister is speaking directly to me about what is going on with me! Glad you found inspiration.

Sometimes the messages we receive are really spot on. Of course, we have to be receptive.

    Hi Janet,
I think that it is amazing when the pieces all come together to work in a way that helps me. It is a mysterious path that we travel at times and it protects us from ourselves. I am glad that you got the message that you needed. (By tghe way, maple, butterscotch, caramel--those flavors work on me harder than chocolate. Good for you for being strong!!)
    Gentle hugs,
    Sylvia

I needed to hear that sermon. I have been emotional eating all week.

When I look at my lack of self-control with food as a sin, I am able to work on it better. When I don't think of it as a sin but instead as a emotional problem, it is so much harder to work on. I don't understand the difference though. Great post!

You have not given up on yourself. You now know you are the only one that can make it happen for you.

You have the power to succeed or fail.

    You have chosen to succeed.

Few baby steps complete a long journey

    Writing is progress!!!

Sounds like a great sermon one that I needed to hear since I have lost self control. Way to go on passing on a temptation. I always found that once you say no the easier it gets when those temptations arise. Keep going strong and have a great week!
