Getting Out of the Pit

Thursday, March 08, 2012

I have thinking and praying a lot about the recent possiblity that my mom as protector may play in my weight journey. Interestingly enough I had chosen a book to take with me to read while my daughter was testing for three mornings this week before I heard those words from my hubby. I've been reading "Get Out of that Pit" by Beth Moore. It is solidifying with each page that this could definitely be a big thing for me. So tonight I am sharing a couple of the scriptures that this author refers to in the book and they keep coming up over and over in different areas this week (Bible study...random scripture...) so I am feeling the "hammer" from the Holy Spirit to listen up.

James 4:7-10
So give yourselves completely to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run from you. Come near to God, and God will come near to you. You sinners, clean sin out of your lives. You who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure. Be sad, cry, and weep! Change your laughter into crying and your joy into sadness. Humble yourself in the Lord's presence, and he will honor you.

Psalm 40:1-3
I waited patiently for the Lord.
He turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the pit of destruction,
out of the sticky mud.
He stood me on a rock
and made my feet steady.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many people will see this and worship him.
Then they will trust the Lord.

Having spent a huge chunk of my life in that pit, I am all too well-acquainted with its every nook and cranny. Not a fun place to be, and I'm so sorry to hear you're there.

But the good news---is there is a way out! You don't have to stay there. There is life outside the pit, Janet--and it's a good life.

If I made it out, I know you will, too!

Stay strong. Stand firm. Listen when the Spirit speaks. He'll guide you out if you let Him.

Believe me...that pit is no place for a Daughter of Zion to be. Ever. For any length of time.

    Praying for you!

Oh my! The Word of the Lord appears before us, and when it does, it truly shows up all over the place. Keep listening - the message is there for you.

And I think the first verse was meant to be seen by me today. Thank you for sharing it here.

When we allow God to work in our lives,he wil help us to stand firm in Him. He took me out of "fearful time " today. I was overreacting and getting nervous. He took me out of that pit of fear, and helped to trustnHim. When I had weathered the emotional storm, I sang His praises to my secretary. I totally"get" your blog today.

Certainly God has been healing me of hurts from when I was young. He doesn't rush but does it at the right time. I was in my late 40s before I had flashbacks to sexual abuse when I was extremely young. I wasn't ready earlier to heal from that.

Isn't it great that He continues to 'give it to us' until we get it?! I sure hope you are planning on seeing Beth Moore when she is in Boise in May. It may be another step in healing for you. Thank you so much for sharing these verses, your blogs bless me, meet me where I am. Thank you.
