Still want that Burger and fries???

I think it is important that I remind everyone that I am NOT blaming McDonalds for what happened with that individual. WE as individuals are responsible for what we eat.

Everyone views the picture different.

McDonalds has health options for adults and children.

FOR ME, when I saw the photo it was a reminder to ME that reckless eating and over indulging in the wrong types of foods can result in this.

It was sent to my team to be as i put "branded in their memory" what could happen if we dont focus. Trust me THAT didnt happen overnight or with one trip to McDonalds.

My hope is that the individual is now on the right path and maybe if we are luck using Sparkpeople.

Because the arm is up like that did anyone look a little further into the picture and notice that the person is wearing a sports bra....so maybe they were starting their lifestyle change!! (winks)

We have to take it day by day. AND if we are lucky enough to get at least one tool a day to aid in our journey...that my friend is the true BLESSING!!!! and I'm Lovin It!!!!

The picture is a reminder of the results of unhealthy eating. McDonalds does have healthy options but "real" fruits and vegetables ARE healthy options. I just recently viewed the (Half Ton Mom) on television. Unfortunately the mother lost her life shortly after having gastric bipass surgery. This is why we need to reach out to our family and friends and encourage them to eat right and exercise. Weight slowly accumulates on you like a thief in the night. It probably took years for that woman's arm to get to that condition. Lets reach out to others. Invite them to your fitness class. I invite them even though I know they will reject it. Spread the word...Spread the care.

It reminds me of some of my personal before pictures, when I actually starting losing weight. When the weight starts to come off, and the skin starts to sag. You don't realize how bad you are looking at the time, it's only when you look back with further progress that you can't believe what you looked like then. I was large, but I didn't frequent fast foods a lot. I just ate a lot, and was very inactive. If this motivates others to become active and more health conscious, then it has served its purpose.

I used to eat two Big Macs, 1 or 2 cherry pies, fries, and a soda once or twice every week about 30 years ago. That was all for one meal. I started to wean myself away from all fast food burgers; soon the greasy smell from driving past these joints made me feel sick. I developed high blood pressure and it is a huge battle to get my health back. But I am so glad to have quit the fast food habit.

I think this pic is POWERFUL! My arms don't look like this but I still have an issue with them. Im working to tone them so they can look as nice as our First Lady! Being overweight due to medical reasons is different that being overweight because you plainly just like to eat all the wrong things. I dont think it was intended to hurt folks feelings, its a reality check of what can happen if you eat the wrong foods. I choose to be healthy, I choose to exercise, I choose to maintain a healthy weight, I choose to live! And for this, I am thankful!

Wow. I guess I could see how this could motivate some people, but I just can't look at a picture, even a picture like this and assume that someone is "just" reckless about their choices. There is always more to the story than what you see and not everyone's story is the same. (I wrote an entire blog about this a few days ago.)
There are people here and Spark people who are that size and they are fighting to get healthy, they are fighting their battles. They need encouragement that is posivite instead of visuals that are hurtful. I know that it wasn't your intent to come off that way, but to me, that's what it seems. I personally battle two endocrine disorders and when I see things like this, it is hurtful. It is hurtful because even though I may not be the size of the woman in the picture, I know that there are so many people who think that reckless choices are the reason why I am fighting this battle. A lot of people do binge eat or eat emotionally and that's an Eating disorder. It's not just a physical thing, it is a mental battle.

when I read this blog, I felt hurt. Hurt for the people on this website who are that size and hurt by the comments of people who didn't think about anybody that they could possibly hurt before saying what they said.

I hope this doesn't come off as disrespectful because that is not how it is meant.

McDonald's is now giving us plenty of healthy choices!

Now we just have to make those choices! No one forces us to eat junk.

It is up to us! Thanks for the photo. Chris

I guess I didn't ever eat there with enough frequency to have any issue with it - I really like that they put their nutrition information on everything. I'd rather know how "bad" I did to be able to "fix" it, than think maybe I did okay and estimate low.

Today is the first time I have taken the time to read my Sparks mail. I have decided to take the 5 month challenge. I challenge myself to lose a minimum of 3 lbs per month and exercise for one hour three times a week.
This is all new to me. Since hurricane Katrina I have had no motivation start back exercising like I had been doing prior to the storm. I used to walk on my treadmill 6 days a week for 1 hour each day before that time, now I hate getting out of bed.
Because I am determined to go from my now size 16-18 to at least a size 10-12 I will be joining the challenge team! Thanks for the encouraging words!!!! Tricy!!!

XTina46 I hear you!!! As a single parent I fall victim to McDonalds A LOT!!! My kids LOVE it. It is too easy to drive thru and grab dinner. But my children are now suffering because their mommy was irresponsible. It is clearly my fault. They couldnt drive themselves thru the drive thru and they dont have money to buy it. We are on a different path now and I am proud that my children are eating better and I found an amazing trainer that adores my children and is getting them in shape. Childhood obesity is on the rise and we have to control it now!!!

Has anyone seen Supersize Me the documentary about a guy who ate nothing but Macdonalds food for a month? Medical tests showed his liver nearly gave out ( because of the food choices, in just one month)and that fast food is not only hideously bad for you but actually addictive to the body as well. Not to mention the hideous suffering inflicted on animals in factory farms as part of the process. A fat loaded arm is only the tip of the iceberg here!

I don't find the picture gross but I do find it scary and sad. I think we all have to take responsibility for our choices and we can choose not to go to McDonald's or any other fast food place for that matter. I also know it is addictive for some and easily accessible. This is definitely a message we all should heed.
