Chew, chew, chew

I am a little behind on my blogs. This is what I learned when I did the 3 day Green Smoothie Challenge back in mid March.

After the challenge was over, I went to raw salads for lunch and raw soups for dinner for a couple of days, to ease back in. And of course found myself chewing. I had missed Chewing. And I found myself slowing down. I was wondering, how on earth had I been swallowing with those large chunks of food in my mouth! So I slowed down, way down. I drank water in between a few bites. I enjoyed what I was eating, taking my time. Amazed that I hadn't choked to death in the past. I can still hear my mother, "Chew your food before you choke to death!".

It is still with me now. I will once in awhile find myself whoofing my food down and wondering why. Why did I woof my food down? I am always in a hurry. Even when I read, or drive or do housework. The only time I slow my pace down is when I grocery shop. And now when I am eating. I spend all that time chopping, dicing, blending, looking for the right recipe. Why rush it? I enjoyed a huge raw salad today and did have to concentrate on not swallowing that small piece of broccoli whole. What a strange habit to have gotten in to.

So that is what I learned from my Green Smoothie challenge. Life is short. Enjoy it while you can, slow down. And chew, chew, chew!
