Pine Line half done on to Cell Com half...15 days!!

Friday, May 04, 2012

Last Saturday I ran my first half marathon. Unfortunately it was not at all what i expected. Of all the days to have a super bad run where anything that could go wrong did...Saturday was it! I have been super down about the whole experience all week and the fact that my hip has been giving me major problems hasnt helped the situation. Its kind of a bummer when you know the walkers re right behind you. At mile 12 my hip got super angry with me and i started getting sharp stabbing pains in it. To top everything off after the half i was sick for two days. I should actually be happy about the fact that I did run the whole thing and that the hopefully now healed up ruptured tendon in my foot did not give me one bit of trouble durring the whole run!
Ok...enough whining out of me! I need to get myself remotivated and get my head straightened out because i have another half marathon in 15 days!!! The Cell com half in Green Bay! I have been doing a lot of stretching for the hip and the foam roller has become my best friend. Just did my first run since running the pine line half last weekend. I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it was, my hip is still pretty angry with me but instead of the sharp pain i got durring the marathon it was just a dull achy pain...I'm hoping that is a good sign! Good thing its time to taper :)

You are something else to be doing two half marathons that close together. You must be crazy or something? It's the good crazy though.

I can't believe you're doing 2 halfs so close together! You're amazing. I've done 2 halfs - a year apart - and the second one had my hip screaming at me too (last Saturday) It was fine by Tuesday and I was back to training. I think my problem (I did a 8mi run/2mi walk split) was too large of steps during the walking portion trying to keep my time lower. I'm trying shorter, quicker steps and also keeping my head up, shoulders back. I seem to have a tendency to lean forward when I start getting tired. You run and you learn, I guess!

I used to be in Green Bay also, now i am in central wi. I'm hoping this will actually be a fun run seeing I am running through 2 of my old neighborhoods and one is at the end. It actually looks like one of the aid stations is in the front yard of the house i grew up in, lol! It will be cool to see how things have changed and will hopefully keep my mind occupied.

Oh man, I used to live in GB (now I'm on the west side of WI) and plan to get back and do the Cellcom 1/2 hopefully next year. You'll have to post how it is. Hope your hip feels better!
