I've been doing excellent at logging into Spark People, so I think that goal has been reached, now I just need to maintain the activity. One thing I didn't expect was to be back to blogging so much, but it really is motivational to me so I'm glad I picked it back up. We're moving into week 2 of the healthy family makeover. This past week has been a struggle to get everything done we want, but I have made some changes. I am doing more for meal planning and I'm clipping coupons. I'm trying to be careful not to let coupon cutting draw me into buying more processed food, so I'm trying to only clip coupons for items that I know I'll use, rather than trying something new, unless it is a healthy variety. I did manage to make all the meals the family planned this week, and I didn't have much room for extras, so I think 4 to 5 planned meals a week is perfect with leftovers for the rest.
This week's family challenge goals should be easy because I've already started to make those changes. We have all been getting extra fruits and veggies and I'm redoing any family meals I can to make them healthier. The one change that will be gradual is the switch to whole grains. I've been baking my own bread, and I'm having trouble coming up with a nice soft, fluffy whole grain bread. They keep coming out hard or too dense, so if anyone has a great homemade bread recipe please share! (note: I do not own a bread maker, so please don't share those recipes unless they can be done by hand). I also struggle with my rice making, it's either too pasty or too crunchy...someday I'll learn, lol. I like the suggestion to mix brown and white rice, then gradually switch to brown rice. My only beef with it is that it takes longer to make brown rice. I also have purchased some wild rice packs, so I think my suggestion for a meal this week will be a chicken, veggie and wild rice dish!
This brings me to my own personal goal for the next week or so. I started with a goal to log into Spark People at least 6 days a week. My goal cannot be marked off until I reach the goal for one to two weeks straight. I've done this with the logging in, so now my next goal is upping my water intake which has been very poor lately. I don't spend as much time in the kitchen, so it's tough to bring my glass with me where it is in the line of fire of being spilled by my hyper kids. I've tried water bottles, but for some reason that's just not cutting it for me. I think it's the difficulty in cleaning those water bottles that makes me dread using them. So, my next plan of action is to try to locate a convenient place in several areas of the house, out of reach of the kids, where I can place coasters and that will be my water station for that room. I'll make an effort to remember to grab my water when I switch rooms and try to bring it with me at all times. If I make tea or add ice to my water I'm more likely to drink it, so I'll be doing that as well.
