Spark Meal Plans

Sunday, May 20, 2012

Have you been tracking your food? I always find I do best when I track food. Recently I discovered the Spark Meal plan, so today I added it to my shopping list routine. I planned and substituted meal plan options for the entire week, deciding early on which meal plans I would skip in favor of the dishes the rest of the family decided on (each family member picks one meal we'll have during the week). I absolutely adore the meal plan options on the food tracker!

I love that it tells you exactly what to eat, and if you don't like one item on the plan you can choose to substitute something else for it, you can change the entire meal option, or you can just toss it and add your own dish. It really has evolved since the last time I tried to use the planner.

Today, the breakfast I had was all things I had in the house and was simple. For lunch I had a brocolli, chedder, bacon baked potato....with FOUR slices of bacon!! I was disappointed that my sour cream had gone moldy before the expiration date, so I sadly substituted almonds for it. This shows the magic of substitution. If you need an emergency substitute, you can get one from a huge list of options!

I'm going to keep using the meal options this week and see how it goes. I think the foods take a bit more prep work, but it will keep me busier and off the computer quite so much. This will probably be a good thing all around.

Time to go make some Glitter Grapes, Bran Muffins, Whole Wheat bread and salsa! I've got a big cooking day ahead of me! Good thing I already have everything I need for pizza tonight, just have to thaw out the dough, fry the burger and build/bake the pizza. Easy peasy.
