Easy Apple Dessert

Monday, May 21, 2012

This is a SparkRecipe! Found here:

It is very easy to make but tastes so good. You can start it before dinner or whatever meal and have it cooking while you put the rest of the meal together. What a happy smell it makes!

Slice three baking apples very thin.

Add 1 tsp cinnamon and 2 tbsp sugar.

Mix well and put in a 9" square baking dish.

In a bowl mix the following ingredients for the topping. Sprinkle over apples.

2 tbsp flour
1 cup of quick oats
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp margarine

Bake at 350 for about 30 mins. Watch for top to start bubbling and browning.

That sounds great. My family loves another apple recipe that is even more healthy and very simple.

Core and slice as many apples (I use Fuji and Gala apples) as you need (I generally do one per person who eats them and then one or two extra).

Then put them in a slow cooker (crock pot) with cinnamon and a 1/4-1/2 cup of water, it doesn't need that much water but if you are doing a dozen you would need the half cup. Let cook on low 4-6 hours. Makes the house smell real nice. No need to add sugar.

You can mash it up a bit and it is applesauce (we don't do that but you could).

We mostly serve it with ham or pork chops as a side dish and generally I give myself a portion the size of one apple and my son and husband divide up the remaining.

or you can serve it after dinner with one table spoon of whipped cream and a table spoon of granola or almonds (or really any nuts).
