Glorious Day

On Saturday our church's Seminarian was ordained as a Deacon. After six more months of guidance he will become a priest.

We went to the Cathedral in Newark on Saturday morning. Weather was predicted to be downpours, but instead the sky turned a beautiful blue with white fluffy clouds. The original Cathedral was built in the 1700's, well before the revolutionary war. It has a rich history. Part of the underground railroad system, there are hidden passageways under the building (I'm so proud of our church's forefathers!!). During the revolutionary war it served as a hospital ministering to all who were wounded, American or British. It was heavily damaged and had to be rebuilt. The pews sat only 4 comfortably. They were divided in the middle; a remanent of the days when people were smaller and family's had their own pew in the church.

The service was beautiful. Don't know who was happier - the seminarian or his wife. We had quite a party for him after the Ordination. It was really hard to stay on plan because there were sandwiches and salads to eat. I was famished as it had been almost 7 hours since I had eaten breakfast. But, I worked it out by dumping the sandwich bread and eating the homemade coleslaw.

Sunday showed the scale up on pound (sad face). Don't know if it was water gain or lack of exercise gain. Better get back on it!

    Hi thereI if you ate sandwich meat of any kind the sodium just hangs on to the fluids. I make sandwiches with lettuce, hamburgers are great that way. I use slices of Zuccini cut the length not across and use tuna fish mixed with a fork to almost a paste for the filling, it works well in there. I add a few drops of red wine vinegar and a bit of olive oil to make it cling.
    Apple slices also make good sandwiches they brown too fast so I cut them at the table. Peanut butter is great. For a really big treat I buy Ghiradelli 60 % dark chocolate .They are the large chips from Sam's club and they are 5 calories per chip. The small ones also have the calorie count per chip. I put 2 chips in a small bowl microwave 30 second on 30% power till they melt add 1 tablespoon Home made or natural PB. Mix it together and use the apple slices as bread HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon

    I love historical places--there's something magical about living and breathing the same space as those who lived those many years ago.

    I don't blame you for indulging in the homemade cole slaw. That's one of my favorites!

    Sounds like you had a busy day!!! I have pretty much cut out bread too since I went off my last Metformin. I have taken to wrapping sandwich stuff in a roamine lettuce leaf if I want ti eat a sandwich. And I have been trying to increase my exercise to 60 minutes on my days off, although it is hard to find the time to do that. I wouldn't worry about that one pound, it'll come off soon along with quite a few more!!! Someone on here posted a great app (no not the ones for Iphones-like I would even know what to do with an app) progress, not perfection!!! I love it and it is so applicable (which is what I meant!!) The Cathedral sounds beautiful!! We have a place like that near us...the Birmingham Friends Meetinghouse that has been a meetinghouse for Quakers since the Revolutionayr War and the doors were taken off to be used as gurnerys during the War to carry wounded soldiers to the hospital it was used for. Yum...homemade coleslaw..my mom made the best coleslaw and I found some in the local grocery store that tastes just like my mom's. I don't buy it too often since no one in our house eats it but me. Anyway..sounds like you had a great day!!!! Have another one today!!!1
