Doing what works for me

Monday, July 23, 2012

After a month of trying to follow all of the helpful advice on diet and exercise from multiple websites, books, gym visits, and dvds I found myself overwhelmed and making little progress towards my weight loss goals.

At the end of all of the confusion I found myself three weeks into my program with a net weight gain of two pounds and tossing out a fridge full of spoiled food. I decided to start fresh with the basics eat less, exercise more and create a calorie deficit at the end of each week to reach my weight loss goals.

I replaced an expensive set of dvds (which got rave reviews, but I found boring) with free online videos hand picked by me and bought foods from all food groups that were full of nutrients and that I wanted to eat. At the end of the week I lost 3 lbs. The best advice I've gotten from Sparkpeople is not to lose weight by doing something I cannot do for the rest of my life. Now I'm working out the way I want to workout, eating the way I want to eat AND I'm losing weight. emoticon

Good for you for re-evaluating your program and designing one that works for you. That's the best way to succeed, make it your own.

You have found what works for you. I find online videos much more fun than the ones you buy and you can change them up whenever you want. I can't afford to buy a lot of extras so I too have learned to portion my meals and eat what I want in moderation and this has worked for me better than any diet program. You're doing great. Keep it up.
