Can you make your brain think you ate a goodie without actually doing it?

Haven't been on my bike for a week, but it is okay since was on vacation and did a lot of hiking. Yesterday planned to start up again and then threw out my back when picking up my backpack to go! Of all things. Just couldn't believe it. My hubby said that I should be able to bike, but the fear (never had a back problem before) and the pain (boy does it hurt) kept me from going. Am going to yoga tonight and hopefully this will help.

I had a revelation of sorts last night and it is along the 'if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a noise' thing. So, if I imagine that I ate a cookie, piece of cake, chips, whatever, can I get my brain to think that I already did and then not actually eat it? ..hmmmm.. will my brain (and mouth) be able to be psyched out? Am going to give it the college try and find out:).

    I read a study a while ago where they had three groups: the control group who did nothing, a group who did a set workout and the third group *thought* about doing the workout. While the third group didn't burn nearly as many calories as the group who actually exercised, they did burn more calories than the group who just did nothing. Sorta the exact opposite of what you're thinking of, eh?

    Now, this was interesting.....didn't taste as good but the visuals and feeling was great!
