Now I know that some of you are probably saying to yourself, Walking is just that walking. How can this be an interesting blog. Bear with me a few moments.
As most you all know I have a Welsh Springer Spaniel named Katie. Katie loves to to take walks. Since we moved to Norman we have been getting to know our neighborhood better almost everyday. When I first moved in walking down to the grade school and back was a big walk for us, 1/2 mile. The walk is all on the sidewalk no busy streets and can be done in 15 minutes with a dog. I know that isn't the fastest pace. We have to take into consideration that Katie is a spaniel and that has a terrific nose. She likes to smell everything as we go. Other dogs in the neighborhood greet us as we walk by each morning. Katie used to bark back at them when we first started this route. Now, she ignores them. She is alwsys up to greeting a new dog who is out for a walk with their owner or kids walking down the street.
Walking Katie on a daily basis has become part of my life I enjoy to the fullest. It is exercise, We both benefit from walking around the neighborhood. Most of all though it is one on one time for the two of us. Katie and I have increased our walking goals slowly over the past three months. We went from walking a 1/2 mile, to a mile, and just recently 1.40miles. We only do the 1.40miles on Saturday and Sunday.
Now that the weather is getting colder, I am not allowing it to hinder our walks. As long as there is no ice or snow on the ground we will keep up our neighborhood walking. The map your route part of your fitness tracker is a great tool for figuring out miles walked, and calories burned. I have a plan for when the roads are nasty. There is a mall not far from where I live and walking the mall will keep me going. Katie will have her backyard to play in. She thinks she is a snow bunny.
