Dusting myself off
Sunday, February 24, 2013
The last 8 months have been rough ones for me. Revelations from my spouse completely caught me by surprise (shock really) and we separated after 22 years. I bought a new house and moved just before Christmas. I have gotten through it, but I reverted to some of my old habits. Exercise fell by the wayside and I ate junk and drank pop. In all I gained back about 20 pounds.
So enough looking back at the past and blaming myself for how I handled the stress. What's done is done and I'm dusting myself off and getting back to it. I've signed up for some races later in the year to help motivate me to get my butt out the door. I've also been doing some swimming which I enjoy. Outside of my running training, I'm trying to focus on just being active doing things I enjoy.
For instance, we went skating last weekend and tobogganing last month, neither of which I had done in recent years. I am going to take some skating lessons starting in May (that's the next session available) and I'm planning to do more skating next winter at the outdoor rink nearby.
I am enjoying my alone time and exploring interests new and old. I'm beginning to believe that the next 22 years will probably be even better than the last 22.
