47lbs and 2 sizes - GONE!!

So what started as a reason to get out of the house has turned in to an obsession!
Thanksgiving night I got a phone call from my bestie as I was laying dazed and confused from the turkey coma I had just woken up from with an invitation that I was not expecting....
"Let's hit the track" she said "It will be fun" she said. So a few minutes later she is pulling up to my house and I get in her car tennies tied and ear warmers in my pocket, just in case. It was cool, but not cold - so the weather was perfect for a leisurely stroll around the track to vent some family time horror stories. Little did I know that leisurely stroll would quickly turn in to an all out power walk that would make the local mall walkers jealous! 5 miles later I'm exhausted and extremely hungry! So we did what normal people do after a good workout - hit the local burger joint for a double bacon cheeseburger, fries, and a coke..... We place our orders and take a seat. (keep in mind, this is thanksgiving night - by this point its going on 10pm) a few minutes go by and our food comes out. The bestie and I do our best to cram this food down our throats as fast as we can, all the while telling each other how bad we are for doing 5 miles and then scarfing down artery clogging, fat soaked, junk food...
The following day - my dogs were barking! even my poor toes hurt! my head hurt! my whole body ached!

Fastforward 3 days
I get another phone call from the bestie - only this time the tone is a little more ominous. she mentions the track and ends the sentence with a chuckle that the Count from Sesame Street would have been proud of. So off to the track we go! This time it is BRUTALLY cold - but we rough it for 3 miles. {and no- we did not hit the burger joint post workout}

Everyday for the the next 4 weeks we would hit the track walking between 3 and 5 miles a day. i can tell its paying off, just bought a new pair of jeans 2 sizes smaller than the last time i went on a shopping binge! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

Our track routine is kinda cooky - but it works for us.
We start with a pre-track snack consisting of a tablespoon of peanut butter and a big dill pickle.
We take the first mile at a nice steady pace..... then comes the fun part!
Mile 2 is generally power mall walking.
Mile 3 is broken up by straight aways and curves - on the straight aways, we jog and the curves we walk backwards - yes BACKWARDS! it was a little trick i learned while i was in track in high school to help relieve shin splints.
Mile 4 is sprinting the curves and a steady walk on the straight aways.
Mile 5 is back to the steady pace.
Then we finish with a post track snack of another tablespoon of peanut and a piece of fruit

With all of these changes that have been going on in my life - i feel very optimistic about this whole year.
-new boyfriend {who adores me}
-amazing friends {who encourage me}
-awesome family {who keeps me grounded}
-phenomenal job {that allows me to afford my new wardrobe}
and i can never give enough credit to God for all the things He's done for me.

    You guys are awesome! It's so funny you mentioned peanut butter and pickles b/c I eat lots of that too! I eat a pickle before meals, usually while I'm cooking, and it keeps me from overdoing it. I've lost 43lbs! Keep up the good work! emoticon

    Great job! Sounds like fun. My best friend from HS and I started doing this as walking around a lake in town. We haven't worked out together lately (though I have been working out) but it makes things more fun when we do.

    Great Job!! It sounds like you're deveoping a very very healthy habit DO you walk even in the freezing cold? Kudos if you do. I wish I lived near a track where I could get out and seriously walk. I live in the mountains so walking is really stressful on the respiratory system! It's great that you have a good friend to keep you motivated and chugging along. Keep up the good work! emoticon
