Question - how many times is too many to start again?

Thursday, April 11, 2013

Hello, you may remember me.

(Then again, by this time, you might not.)

If you do remember me, it's probably as the girl who keeps claiming to be starting over and then disappearing promptly. And I'm sort of ashamed that I keep disappearing - but I'm sure as hell not ashamed that I keep coming back.

So. Once more with feeling.

I've put on a lot of weight; finals are looming, and what with the stress of impending exams which are almost my entire degree grade, I've been kind of stress. I've ordered food instead of leaving the house, I've eaten chocolate instead of meals, I've skipped meals, I've been working out once a week tops.

(Although having said that, my pole dancing achievements are growing massively, and I'm certainly getting stronger.)

But that ends today (again)!

So here we are; it's 7 30 am and I've been up for half an hour already and I've done some strength training and pole conditioning. I've thrown out all the crap in my cupboard, all the chocolate left over from Easter, and I'm writing up meal plans and shopping lists. I'm writing a blog.

So - my list of small goals for today?

--> work out for at least ten minutes
--> no visits to the vending machine
--> measure and weight out my food
--> track my food
--> track my exercise on fitocracy

I'll let you know later how those goes - and I WILL be back tomorrow!

Welcome back ! Don't beat yourself up because you've regained some weight. That has happened to every single member of spark at one time or another. We're all experts at gaining, losing and regaining the weight. Well, that's the past. You can't change the past, but you CAN influence and change the future !!

I give all new members (and anyone who will listen to me) one piece of advice and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction. NO ONE ever became a healthy eater overnight.

Perhaps the reason you give up or get frustrated is because your goals are too ambitious. Start with some simple changes first. don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. And if you do get frustrated, why not post a blog ? Your Spark friends will always support you if you need some extra support.

You don't have to do this alone !

Start over as many times as you have to. I don't know anyone who lost a lot of weight who got it right the first time (or dozen).

I don't think of it as starting over but a continuation of a very hilly journey. Just keep going!

You can NEVER start too many times!

As my favorite motivational speaker says, "IT AIN'T OVER UNTIL YOU WIN!"
    -Les Brown

So keep coming back. Make today a good day, and do those same things again tomorrow, until you feel empowered to increase or do something else. You can do this!

PS - why does your ticker say you weigh over 300 pounds????

My mom quit smoking many times before she finally kicked the habit for good. I think it's the same with weight loss. Sometimes you have to start over again and again and again before something clicks and it finally works. Good luck!
