On Pole Dancing.

Friday, April 12, 2013

So, over the past couple of months I haven't been working out much. I haven't found the time and I've found more than a handful of excuses. But the one thing I have stuck with is pole dancing.

Now, if you've never seen a pole dancing performance, I urge you to go ahead and watch this one:

Might have been pretty different from what you were expecting, huh? No stripper heels, no glitzy outfit, no wiggling of the bum against the pole.

(Now, don't get me wrong - both kind of performances are awesome, but I can't walk in stripper heels and I don't have the confidence for the gold bikini. So, my pole style tends more towards this kind of thing.)

This woman is my idol, and that is the kind of thing I'm aiming for. As you can probably see, pole dancing takes a huge amount of strength! I've been dancing for two years now, and I've got so much stronger. When I watch this video now (and I watch it often) I'm no longer just staring in awe - there are several points where I'm jumping up and down and saying "I can do that!".

I always, always, always forget to bring my camera to my lessons, without fail, so I don't really have any pictures or videos of me dancing, but we're apparently getting a photographer in after exams, so perhaps I'll have something to show you then.

But for a start, how's this? This week's achievement...

I got this move for the first time!

Pole dancing has done wonders for me. I'm stronger, I'm more flexible, I'm more confident. I've made great friends (even if my mother still doesn't know that I do it). If anyone's on the fence about starting, I would urge you to go and book your lessons right this second! You don't need any level of fitness or strength or flexibility to start; you'll gain that along the way.

Now, as for how yesterday went? My goals were:

--> work out for at least ten minutes emoticon
--> no visits to the vending machine emoticon
--> measure and weigh out my food emoticon
--> track my food emoticon
--> track my exercise on fitocracy emoticon

Not bad! Today's goals?

--> work out for at least ten minutes
--> get through my pole abs conditioning routine
--> measure and weigh out my food
--> track my food
--> track my exercise on fitocracy
--> no snacking in the evening

Hope everyone's having a fantastic day!

    I have done pole classes before they are no joke. We had strippers teaching ours but they were serious about it. It was a lot of strength building and it was a lot of fun. I wish they had it where I live now.
