Happy Volunteer appreciation week

Sunday, April 21, 2013

I encourage everyone to volunteer. I've gotten so much more than I've given. Made wonderful friends. Had fun and/or satisfaction of making a real difference. Currently - Priory/Commandery officer in the Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller (we raise money for other charities). Docent - Central Park Zoo. Volunteer at the Intrepid Museum (the most fun). I had to cut back other things due to a temporary medical problem.
Give it a try.

I agree. I love volunteering!! I even get my son to join me. We walk dogs at the local shelter. It is a double help as the dogs get to go out and enjoy a nice walk and we get the exercise of a walk too!!!

I have been volunteering since I retired. It's very rewarding. Most of my volunteer work now is with Foster children and serving on a Juvenile Court Panel.

I have to say, girl, right on!!!! I currently volunteer for a nearby retirement/assisted living home, where I have made many friends, young and old, as well as just had lots of good memories! I also volunteer for the local public library. I made up my mind when my girls' both left for college that I could either watch Matlock and crochet baby blankets all day or do something actually productive, that's when I went back to volunteering. It has sometimes been exhausting but almost always rewarding, if only because it has provided an outlet for my need to nurture someone! I thank you for remembering our week, and hope it is a terrific one for you!!! emoticon
