Workout Excuses

Thursday, April 25, 2013

My number one workout excuse is that I don't have time. I have an hour commute to work in the morning so I am waking up early as it is. I don't want to walk at lunchtime because I will get hot and sweaty and don't want to sit at my desk like that. When I get home I have to make dinner, do wash, pick up, sometimes I don't sit down until 9 p.m.!! I take the stairs at work and do park aways from the entrance so I have a little walk but that is it. Its very hard to carve out time during the week to get any exercise in. I used to not have a problem when I worked closer to home but since my job moved it just seems like I don't have time during the week for much. The only solution I can see is wake up earlier which would have to be 4:30 a.m. and I just dont kniow about that. Any suggestions or solutions are welcome!!! emoticon

You have to believe that it is good for you. And it is worth the effort to make it a habit. Once it is a habit, it will be easier.

You can work out in 4 minute increments. Google "Tabata" for examples. You can download Tabata music from iTunes. It will time you for 20 seconds of intense exercise and 10 seconds for 8 "rounds" for a total of 4 minutes.

I Tabata situps, planks kettlebells, jumping jacks, wall squats, marching in place etc etc. for short rounds of exercise through out the day, or I do it in longer, more intense rounds at the gym.

You can also "hoop" or march in place while watching TV.

    Take care!

Like BGUMBA says, checkmout the little things you can do - don't forget squats, toe touches, etc when you take a potty break. Lift soup cans while cooking, or do something which microwaving. Good luck!

Check out chair exercises and desk exercises here on SparkPeople. Every little bit helps. A lot of the housework we do can be turned into exercise. Do a few "laundry basket lifts" for strength training or grab a couple laps around the office during the day. Try to think of ways to be more active as you do your routine tasks. Just the little things can make a difference.
