Queen Victoria and me!

---- Spring in the bush---looking over the lake
This weekend will be a holiday weekend here in Canada---
Monday will be the 24th of May holiday!
It marks the first holiday weekend in the summer for Canadians.
The Provincial Parks open for campers-
Hay Fever is always bad in the Spring-

my garden other yrs, this time---(not this yr!)

When we were kids, we used to recite---"The 24th of May is the Queen's Birthday and if we don't get a holiday, we'll all run away!"-
The Queen mentioned was Queen Victoria.
The 24th of May, in Northern Ontario, usually is "buggy"-----
Usually the leaves are out---(they are only partially out this year)-and the blackflies are so thick, one has to wear "bug gear"---specially bug hats--

This year (so far)-we do not have the horrible bugs yet due to the snow and cold weather)-
This is the weekend I usually can plant veggies and flowers ---(so far this year it has been too cold!)-

To-day I have a piano lesson
To-day--EXERCISING will be a priority----drinking water-----portion control----
I really want to fly with those turtles---

Enjoy the long week end.We still have the black flies here in Eastern Ontario. Hope you don't have them for the long week end. I was hoping that the colder weather we had last week end had killed them off ........not emoticon

Glad we have Queen Victoria's birthday to celebrate a long weekend! Wish we also celebrated Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry's birthday too! I could use some more long weekends! LOL!

Have an awesome day and enjoy the no black flies while you can!

WooHoo - our first long weekend this season - yehhhhhhh!

We Canadians do call this our May 24th weekend even though it rarely falls on the 24th. It's in recognition of Queen Victoria's BD which does fall on the 24th, but we celebrate it every year on the last Monday before May 25 to make it the long weekend. Some people refer to that Monday also as "Firecracker Day" as we end the day with lots of fireworks.

Looking forward to great family time and getting away to the cottage!

You must have a different calendar than I do. My calendar says that Monday is the 20th, but yes I do see that the 20th is Victoria Day. The US gets their holiday a week later on the 27th this year.

    Enjoy your long weekend!

Loved your story about you and the Queen - your sense of humor is wonderful. And SO glad your blackflies aren't there yet - hard to enjoy the outdoors with those little buggers (LOL!) biting!

We're finding it a later spring, too, and I'm much farther south (Maryland). Here on "the mountain" I think flowers and trees are about two-three weeks later than usual. But I MUCH prefer the spring to the heat of the summer, so all this is just fine with me!

Have a great day, Lynda! Sparkle on!
