Confession is good for the soul, right?
Well, I have a confession.
I LIKE SODA.
I would even say I'm addicted to it. My brain tells me I need it when I'm stressed. If I have a headache, I can drink a soda and it will go away. I'm not sure how much of that is psychological, but I would imagine at least 50% is only in my head.
I have tried to stop drinking it, and I did really well for a while. I hardly drank any soda at all when I was pregnant with Clare in 2012. Then, after she was born, I suddenly began craving it.
Mountain Dew Baja Blast that is only available at Taco Bell is my favorite. (Taco Bell is another confession for another day.) But I also really like Fresca, Diet Coke, and Diet Pepsi.
I like the bubbles. I like the syrupy flavor. I like the way it burns the back of my throat. My favorite thing to do is stick a can in the freezer for about an hour and let ice crystals form inside.... then crack it open and..... AHHHHHHHH....
I have this thing where I stress eat. And for a while, I could make myself not stress eat by having a soda instead. So, stress soda drinking. I use it the way other people use alchohol. (I don't drink alchohol at all, ever. TEETOTALER.) When I was having a busy day at work, I would grumble to myself that I was going to get a soda. It would make me feel better. And it did.
But I know it's bad. My head tells me I need to quit. I know it makes me crave sweets more. I also have issues with bladder infections and acid wear on my teeth. You would think that would be enough to keep me from drinking it....
So I went looking for articles against drinking soda. There are plenty of those!!
You may not be able to read that. Here's a link to the page where you can see it bigger.

So, here we go.
Actually, I did pretty well this weekend. I did have my Baja Blast with my Taco Bell on Saturday. That's like a tradition. Gonna be hard to break. Also, Diet Pepsi at Grand Pacific on Thursday night. Another tradition. But I DID drink more water! And water is all I've had today at work when, normally, I would have stuck a soda can into the freezer for an afternoon pick-me-up. So, that's good, right?
